The original song seemed to be going for a big room electronic club sound, but Robin Thicke's vocals and Kendrick Lamar's verse sounded to us like they could be flipped to a more hip hop / r&b smoothed out type of vibe.  We concentrated on making the drums dope and tried to make something that really turned the track into a whole new song.  We feel like we came up with something that was a more soulful version of the original track.
