When I was "The Madame" on South Florida radio from 1977-1985, I interviewed a candid Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb at the height of Saturday Night Fever's popularity. It was for a Y-100 special that aired October 6th, 1979. Recorded in Cincinnati September 15, 1979, produced by Y-100's Alan Leininger, with a new introduction recorded February 12, 2016.

Hearing me talk about him showing up at the Van Morrison shows, K-ROCK broadcasting from the Paul McCartney concert at Madison Square Garden, and a benefit with celebrity DJs like Laurie Anderson and Lou Reed, brings back how exciting it was to be in New York City. Everyone, eventually, came through town.

Michael Jackson,  circa the “Off the Wall” LP, 1980. It was a bad phone connection. I was too intimidated to ask him if I could call him back. I figured we could “fix it in the mix” (the last words a sound engineer or producer wants to hear). Bill Tanner, my boss, yelled at me later, “You should have called him back!” Oh, well.

More from the Bluesbreakers archives, a three-song set I did at midnight on K-ROCK. This photo with Steve Ray Vaughn was taken when I did middays following the Howard Stern show. You would think from the photo we got on like a house on fire. The opposite was true. I could barely get a word out him while his manager, when the mike was off, wouldn't shut up. He apologized about Stevie's lack of engagement by saying "He just got out of rehab." Gary Dell'Abate from the Stern show told me he said the same thing to Howard when he behaved the same way.
