From 1742 to 1744 Arne stayed in Dublin, where he composed his first oratorio ’The Death of Abel’. The ’Hymn of Eve’ is one of the best-known parts of this oratorio, written in baroque style.

In addition to the well-known major musical dramas, Richard Wagner wrote many occasional works. For example, between March 3 and March 17, 1832 he composed the ’Concert Overture No 2 in C Major’. The first performance of this overture took place in Leipzig in March 1832, conducted by Wagner himself.

BRIDAL PROCESSION from ”THE QUEEN OF GOLCONDA - Franz Berwald / arr. Jo Vliex.

Grieg wrote this hymn in 1893 for voice and piano accompaniment. A second version for mixed choir followed in 1898. This version premiered on January 30, 1899 and was included in the ’To Religiøse Kor’. This collection of songs is dedicated to the ’Caecilaforeningen’, a choir from Copenhagen that sang that version for the first time. The arrangement for wind band and fanfare band was made from the second version.

Liberated for 80 years!!

On Tuesday, September 19, 1944, Brunssum, located in the Dutch province of Limburg, was liberated from the Nazi regime by the American army. This march, called ’The Liberators’, is a tribute to the heroes who fought for our freedom, now 80 years ago. Elements of the American anthem, ’The Star Spangled Banner’, have been incorporated in this composition.

In 1864, Andrey Yevgenyev composed ’The Tsar's Soldier’, a work originally written for solo voice, male choir and piano. The composition was written in romantic style and Yevgenyev composed the music to a libretto by Ivan Bocharov. Jo Vliex made the arrangement for wind band and fanfare band.
