Before talking about "Quiet and Cold," today's daily Interbay track drop, I want to take a moment to explain why, over the past few days, I've been talking about something special coming soon.  

That's because today's SoundCloud post is the 460th Interbay SoundCloud exclusive track.  When you combine those 460 tracks with the 140 Interbay tracks that were posted on Facebook before I switched to posting here...that means this is the 600th Interbay track since beginning this project in January 2023.  

600 tracks--that's a big round number, and I think that's worth celebrating...and I've got something on the way that will aid in that celebration.  And thank you to you who have taken an interest in this Interbay music project and have been part of the journey so far...  

Often, when I've hit a big round number of posted tracks, that track will be something different--and I think "Quiet and Cold," even considering how many genres Interbay dabbles in, IS indeed something different.  

The vibe of "Quiet and Cold" is arctic...chilly...mysterious.  It is a disquieting atmospheric piece, with touches of future r&b and the best early synthesizer ballads.  This could be Interbay's "Vienna" or Interbay's "Moments In Love" or possibly Interbay's "Neon Lights."  I can hear elements that remind me of all of those songs in this track.  

Of course, this is--as usual, for Interbay--not what I was aiming for when I started this project.  I was actually going for a Jam & Lewis dramatic Minneapolis Sound late 80s early 90s r&b thing--somewhere between New Edition's "Can You Stand The Rain" and Mint Condition's "Breakin' My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes)"...what remains from that direction are the plinky raindrop pizzicato synths and the "dat-dat-dat-da-da" part.   

(I actually got to see Mint Condition play in a gym in West Central Wisconsin--only about a dozen of us were there...my roommate at the time, Mike, and I were comped in...  They were being managed by Jellybean Johnson, the drummer for The Time...and this was before they had any product out.  I think they had just been signed.  I know they played "Breakin' My Heart..." because I recognized it a few months later when it came out.  I really thought that song, and that gorup, were going to be bigger than they ended up being, and that song has stuck with me.)

The temporary project name for this track was "Dressed For The Weather"--and I was working on the lyrics in that style...when the vibe turned more coldwave than Flyte Tyme.  So, I ran with it...and "Quiet and Cold" is what I came up with.  

I think it is certainly worthy of being one of the Interbay "big round number" tracks--I hope you agree!  Give it a listen, a like, a repost and all that stuff.  (And follow for more Interbay, still dropping daily here on SoundCloud!)  

BONUS Interbay points for anyone who knows what the thumbnail image is from.  I thought it was fitting--and it certainly makes "Quiet and Cold" a lot darker than it might seem on first listen, on its own.
