Many of us have been taught that our sensuality is not sacred, that our embodiment is not holy. We are taught that to be "spiritual" or "pure" is in conflict with our sexuality. In reality, sensuality and sexuality are some of the most beautiful, divine gifts we are given as humans. While we may intellectually agree with this, the conditioning of thousands of years of patriarchy and oppression around these topics runs deep. Music has the power to penetrate aspects of our beings that words alone can't. So, a song that celebrates and affirms this truth is powerful medicine.

The tyranny of the "trance of unworthiness" is a fierce one. Most of us are bombarded with messages of self-doubt and insecurity by the mass media, our families and our culture at large from a very young age. We are taught we need to look, be and perform in very specific, usually unrealistic ways to be worthy of love. This honestly makes me want to grab a bucket and puke in it just thinking about it! 😂 Yuck! Let's clear that toxic business from our beings ASAP! 

The original words to this song, written by Michael Stillwater, are "Oh, oh, oh, I am that I am. Oh, oh, oh, I am that I am." He granted me his blessing to record this song with the agreement that I stick to his original lyrics, though he did approve my request to include my adapted lyrics at the end. That's why you'll notice this difference in the recording, compared to how we sing it live. I feel the self-love message is important, so I'll stick to those lyrics when sharing it live, fyi!

Kokûzō is regarded as one of the great Bodhisattvas. His name can be translated as "boundless space treasury" as his wisdom is said to be boundless as space itself. Kokûzô represents the great wisdom of the Buddha that exists throughout the entire universe, and he has the virtue of enabling those who chant his mantra to obtain the illuminated wisdom of the Buddha. He is known as the guardian of the purity of infinite space. His mantra is sung here in Japanese:

Auch wenn es in der medialen Wahrnehmung in den Hintergrund getreten ist: Die Lebensräume vieler Arten sind mehr denn je bedroht. Populationen schrumpfen gewaltig. Höchste Zeit zu handeln. Deswegen wiederhole ich heute noch einmal meinen Appell: Mache mit und setze dem Klimawandel und Artensterben Dein Engagement entgegen. Nehme nicht so einfach hin, dass wir das Leben vieler Geschöpfe unserem Gott des Wachstums opfern. Wir können etwas verändern, wir müssen etwas ändern. Four years ago, I wrote “The Last Beluga Whale,” a song that was very important to me and with which I wanted to shake people up. Since then, commitment to the environment and to our future in general has unfortunately declined noticeably. Even though it has faded into the background in media coverage, the habitats of many species are more threatened than ever. Populations are shrinking dramatically. It is high time to act. That is why I am repeating my appeal today: join in and counter climate change and species extinction with your commitment. Don't just accept that we are sacrificing the lives of many creatures to our god of growth. We can make a difference, we must make a difference.
