Chinese Wheel

Joanna Jakma has been playing piano since she was 7 years old. She began composing her own pieces at the tender age of 10 and by 11, had composed a piece of music spanning 8 minutes of a patchwork quilt of little melodies and chords she had come up with. At age 14, she wanted to be a composer. She did look into studying music in Trinity and was accepted into the Ballyfermot School of Music, but given the competition in this field she decided to take a different career path. However, music has always remained a strong passion and a source of meditation for her and she continues to compose on a regular basis. In fact, she finds it hard to sit at a piano and not to! In her college years, she had a stint of playing piano in a nearby restaurant and taught a number of students piano also.
