Christal is the label co/owner of the prominent Drum & Bass label - Smooth N Groove Records alongside Clen. The label is based out of Northampton, UK and Washington DC, USA. The label has been active since 2016.

Smooth N Groove is a Drum & Bass label dedicated to bringing atmospheric, Funky, Soulful, rolling vibes from the best in the scene to the ears of all listeners. Since its conception Smooth N Groove has established a respectable place within the scene with full support from their peers and an ever growing fan base. Over the years the imprint has released music from some of the scenes very best, from the likes of Madcap, Blade, mSdoS, Dave Owen, Payback, Soul Connection, Poscheck and Carter to name a few. 

Chris runs a club night since 2018 alongside Scott Allen (Soul Deep Recordings), Clen (Smooth N Groove)  and John Crossland (SoulStructure) called Soul Deep vs Smooth N Groove. Keep an eye out for more info on their next event November 26th, 2022, at Club 43 Northampton, UK.

They have also taken the Soul Deep vs Smooth N Groove brand to the west coast of America hosting events in Los Angeles at Respect, and San Francisco at Stamina.

DnB Girls Podcast #41 - Preethi

We were still in the throes of the pandemic when I launched the LLL series back in March of 2021. I had dipped my toes into the Twitch streaming pool through 2020 as part of the ATL DJ Collective crew but this was the first time I struck out on my own to do my own thing on my own channel. I had no idea where it was gonna end up but I set some parameters for myself. I wanted to avoid playing the same tracks from show to show and I wanted to make sure that every set I played met a minimum standard of quality to where I could throw the recording up on Soundcloud and it would stand up to some of the best mixes I heard from my personal DNB DJ idols. While I feel like in some ways I succeeded in that task, I think I underestimated the amount of work that would go into unearthing fresh new music every week, time spent organizing my Rekordbox playlists, tagging tunes by key and plain familiarizing myself with every new track, finding relationships between old and new tracks, devising a cue point system to alert me on the fly where vocals come in on tracks to avoid clashes. Not to mention, making artwork, posting on socials... The list goes on and on. I wish it were as easy as "just jumping on and playing for 2 hours". It's actually easy to do that, but can you jump on and PLAY WELL for 2 full hours?

With the benefit of hindsight and 100 LLL episodes under my belt I can undoubtedly say this endeavor has made me a better DJ, even with my 30+ years of experience going into this. The bonus level to all of it has been all the cool people I now call my friends, who log on every Saturday to watch me sink or swim every week. All the banter in the chat, tunes we've recommended to each other and bonding we've done over this music we love called drum'nbass. All the producers who've reached out to me and entrusted me with their exclusives. Everyone who's listened and shared on Soundcloud and socials... I appreciate y'all. I don't know for how long I'll keep this going, but for now I can call this experiment an unqualified success. Thanks for the support and much love 🖤
