Now it's a pleasure to have him as our guest for a Caja Negra journey, where he takes us from exquisite ambient textures to sounds from polyrhythmic African music and modular techno with dubby feels.

Influenced by popular music from Latin America and inspired by spontaneity, asymmetry and intuition, his music indicates an organic sensation, both for its sound form and structure.

Buma II is the second single of my upcoming album. This track draws inspiration from the Baka Pygmy tribes of Congo and Cameroon and their Booma Dance in particular, where the complex triplet rhythms lead the way into deep hypnotic states.

The track was made with a tamtam marrocan drum and a modular synth. 

The full album will be out via @yukumusic on the 22nd of August and you can pre-order the vinyl already :)

Far off in the brush of the West Africa there lives a tribe of people that have stirred up a lot of interest in their mythology. The Dogon, from Mali, have some interesting beliefs, elaborate rituals and myths. They believe that they are descended from ancient Egyptians and their story goes back further than 50,000 years. Their stories contain actual facts about the solar system and ancient history. The Dogon tribe believes that the starting point of creation is a star that revolves around Sirius and is known as the 'Digitaria star'. Their understanding is that this star is small, but heavy, and contains the building elements of creation. So, here are some building elements of their music creation. This is our new compilation and is called THE DOGON ORCHESTRA, full of positive vibes and awesome music. This is our world and you're welcome to it.......

This is the recording of my live set at @ShikaShikacollective 's London Showcase alongside History of Colour and @dj-Yeahman, it was a sweet night full of colourful tunes ❤

Despite the electricity in the club cut half way through my set for a couple of minutes I managed to go back and fix the recording pretty easily so here it is!
Over an hour of a live, semi improvised performance where I resample old tracks of mine creating new live versions and occasionally jam with my synthesiser.

Inspired by sounds from all corners of the globe, artists from Ecuador, Brazil, Argentina, Australia and the UK invite you to experience their homelands through their individual musical styles, keeping to the diverse sounds that Earthly Measures has come to be known for!

Ecuadorian born Joaquin Cornejo’s KOMOREBI serves as an excellent introduction to the label, with emotive sounds and soulful lyrics creating a beautifully peaceful track. This is a song built around almost forgotten vocal recordings of the amazing English singer Wabi Sabi and resampled old magnetic tape recordings that make up the rich textural background.

This is my remix of Quixosis' amazing track "Lisergium Tremens" from his EP Poncho Ácido.  I think it shows how I have recently been really inspired by British electronic music, maybe it's nostalgia from having lived there, who knows, but waaw there's some edgy music in that island. 

I made this out of an edited live jam with a couple of sequencers and a tape delay <3 hope you guys feel the vibe.

In Especies Afines, Quixosis explores tempo duplicities, combining disparate species of rhythms into synchopated, polyrhytmic doublecounts, that are both slow and fast, that anchor down thick and fluctuating ambiences layered in tape feedback and games of time. With rhtyhmic elements of footwork, dub, ambient, breakbeats and DnB, Especies Afines are an uplifiting and energetic series of tracks, full of detail and bass heavy rhythms, and deeply enveloping ambient cushions that give off an energy that is both hot and calm like an bonfire, transparent and liquid, like a quicksilver prisma.

Quixosis - Creer Es Ver (feat. Joaquin Cornejo)

Continuing to push his sound into new realms through experimentation with different influences, Joaquin Cornejo returns to Earthly Measures with his first vinyl release. The ‘Las Frutas’ EP contains 6 genre-bending, tempo-shifting tracks that form to create a mesmerising blend of footwork, dub, Latin & African percussion.

‘Las Frutas’ explores a collaboration with both the Spanish singer Alex Serra and British DJ and trumpet player DJ Swordfish. It’s constructed by a warped and pitched down drum break that has been slowly surrounded by subby kicks, toms and dub chords that echo through tape delays, giving it a wonderfully spaced out atmosphere that provides the perfect backdrop for the soothing vocals and brass instruments.

‘Spatial Request’ sees a shift in tempo as Joaquin once again blends elements of Dub but this time with the driving Dominican rhythm Merengue. The result is a track that is very much fuel for the mind and body as the vibey atmosphere and percussive focus helps to keep the track moving with bouncy momentum.

Effortlessly combining music from his home country with the Dub theme that has been apparent throughout, ‘Dub en 3’ is a percussion jam from Ecuadorian percussion duo Consulado del Ritmo, where African triplet rhythms crossover with strong dub techno stabs and a Dub MC sample echoes in and out creating a effective blend of tribal and dubby elements.

‘Eso’ sees the return of the percussive wizardry of Consulado del Ritmo but this time in collaboration with the Venezuelan singer Gotopo. A relentless amalgamation of 160bpm djembe grooves, solid 808 kick drums, deep and sultry vocals and synth stabs feed-backing on tape create a driving blend of African percussion and footwork with a subtle touch of dub techno.

Perhaps the darkest track on the record, ‘Shadow’ is a collaboration with the English singer-songwriter Wabi Sabi aka Anna Bailey. Exploring a deep fusion of footwork, dubstep and dub techno alongside strong tape delay and Wabi Sabi’s hauntingly beautiful vocals, it glides experimentally through the shadows of the previous track.

‘Las Frutas’ Vapor Mix’ is a distant dreamy take on the original where the vocals ebb and flow throughout creating an otherworldly ambience. This piece is made up of elements from the other tracks, pitched down or up on tape and layered in a tempo-independent way, producing the perfect ambient ending to the journey.

In 2019 Montoya released his 3rd album ‘Otun’ on ZZK Records. His blend of Afro-Colombian Rhythms and electronic beats (featuring vocalists Pedrina and Quantic collaborator Nidia Gongora) found support from the likes of Branko, Nubya Garcia, Papaoul, and many a dancefloor that came out to see him on tour.

Montoya is a classically trained violinist who moved from Colombia to Italy in 2001 where he joined Fabrica, a “cultural subversion center”, and experimented with arts and music. His fresh take on Colombian sounds pricked up the ears of contemporaries and soon he was asked to remix Nicola Cruz, Matanza and others. 

To borrow some words from DJ Mag, “from Colombia to Treviso via music. Montoya is surely one of the most interesting musicians on the scene”.  Montoya has now invited some of his friends, from Treviso to Colombia, to put their spin on his music. 

Chilean DJ Raff was an architect of the hip-hop scene in Chile and his ‘Latino & Proud’ track was used as the theme tune for Comedy Central’s award winning Broad City.  Since moving to London his electronic productions have gained support from Tom Ravenscroft and Gilles Peterson (BBC 6 Music) and others .  Having recently released music on Dengue Dengue Dengue’s new label, DJ Raff now turns ‘Solo Quiero’ into a sun drenched summer anthem.  

Clap! Clap! has developed his own inimitable style which has seen him gain support from Paul Simon, Gilles Peterson, Future Music Magazine and a raft of others. Montoya recently remixed Clap! Clap!’s ‘Rising Fire’ and now Clap! Clap! dials up the bass and marimba on Montoya’s ‘Pasillo’.

Barcelona based Baiuca has been making a name for himself with his unique vision of traditional folk music from Galicia reshaped with club orientated electronics. His take on ‘Otun’ gives it a deep bouncy and propulsive bass line punctuated with Nidia Gongora’s hypnotic vocals. 

Kenyan field recording and experimental sound artist KMRU, who received recognition from the likes of Resident Advisor for his delicate works, has put his distinct ambient touch on ‘Perla’.  

Lorenzo BITW, Cornelius Doctor, and Delaunay offer up their experimental versions and Joaquin Cornejo revisits ‘Solo Quiero’ with an ethereal blissed out mix.

The ‘Las Frutas’ EP contains 6 genre-bending, tempo-shifting tracks that form to create a mesmerising blend of footwork, dub, Latin & African percussion.‘Las Frutas’ explores a collaboration with both the Spanish singer Alex Serra and British DJ and trumpet player DJ Swordfish. It’s constructed by a warped and pitched down drum break that has been slowly surrounded by subby kicks, toms and dub chords that echo through tape delays, giving it a wonderfully spaced out atmosphere that provides the perfect backdrop for the soothing vocals and brass instruments.‘Spatial Request’ sees a shift in tempo as Joaquin once again blends elements of Dub but this time with the driving Dominican rhythm Merengue. The result is a track that is very much fuel for the mind and body as the vibey atmosphere and percussive focus helps to keep the track moving with bouncy momentum.Effortlessly combining music from his home country with the Dub theme that has been apparent throughout, ‘Dub en 3’ is a percussion jam from Ecuadorian percussion duo Consulado del Ritmo, where African triplet rhythms crossover with strong dub techno stabs and a Dub MC sample echoes in and out creating a effective blend of tribal and dubby elements.‘Eso’ sees the return of the percussive wizardry of Consulado del Ritmo but this time in collaboration with the Venezuelan singer Gotopo. A relentless amalgamation of 160bpm djembe grooves, solid 808 kick drums, deep and sultry vocals and synth stabs feed-backing on tape create a driving blend of African percussion and footwork with a subtle touch of dub techno.Perhaps the darkest track on the record, ‘Shadow’ is a collaboration with the English singer-songwriter Wabi Sabi aka Anna Bailey. Exploring a deep fusion of footwork, dubstep and dub techno alongside strong tape delay and Wabi Sabi’s hauntingly beautiful vocals, it glides experimentally through the shadows of the previous track.‘Las Frutas’ Vapor Mix’ is a distant dreamy take on the original where the vocals ebb and flow throughout creating an otherworldly ambience. This piece is made up of elements from the other tracks, pitched down or up on tape and layered in a tempo-independent way, producing the perfect ambient ending to the journey.
