In EP 336 of the SUNDAY WIRE show, host Patrick Henningsen is joined by global affairs analyst Dr Mohammad Marandi from the University of Tehran, to discuss the recent developments in Beirut, Lebanon in the aftermath of the tragic explosion which destroyed the city's port area and resulted in many dead and injured, as well as 300,000 made homeless due to ancillary damages. Dr Marandi also explains some of the legacy issues in Lebanese politics, as well as the true aims of US and its allies in the region, motivation behind punishing economic sanctions by Washington, and how these policies actually prevent delivery of regional aid, cooperation and prosperity among neighboring states.

Elise Trouw - How To Get What You Want (Calvin Bacon Remix)

I decided, after looking at several of Martin's paintings, that I wanted to focus on that precision repetition, the light/dark alternation, and the subtle gradations of field.

The track is an improvisation inside Live, with one instance of the Buchla Music Easel (providing the upper-register track) and one of ARP 2600 V3 (providing the lower one), with Live's BrainDance and Squishy Beat Repeat effects to put in additional emergent rhythmic effects. I potted down both synths, gradually faded them in, and then slowly tweaked the filter frequency and resonance on the ARP, gradually adding in ore modulation from the ring modulator, then slowly removing it. The Buchla's variations came from tweaking the effects following it, but basically leaving the patch alone to imitate the regular ruled lines.

My artist-friend Christophe Rodiac took that picture which inspired me at first sight, envisioning sound-objects splattering all over... Et voila !
