In 1999, archaeologists excavating the temple of Tlatelolco discovered the skeleton of a 20-year-old sacrificial victim who was clutching two skull-shaped figurines. Historians initially thought the clay sculptures were mere toys and they were catalogued and stored in a museum warehouse. It was not until years later that someone decided to blow into the clay device. The haunting, screaming sound that emerged from the whistle has redefined our understanding of pre-Hispanic instruments and rituals.

Some scholars believe that the skull-shaped whistles found in Tlatelolco were used to recreate the screech of howling wind, because they were found in a temple dedicated to the wind god Ehecatl. The instruments are known as “whistles of death” because historians believe they were used to help guide sacrificial victims on their journey to the afterlife.

Im Hinterhof hallt es auch, lautes Singen, Duschwasser auf weißem Porzellan, aus den Boxen schallt es rauf. Zu dir. In deine Welt, deine 4 Wände, deine Schränke, deine Sammelbände. Unberührt und leicht verstaubt. Setzt dich raus, drehst Papier, Rauch steigt auf. Kleine Augen, leerer Bauch. Sonne kitzelt auf der Haut. Schlürfend strahlend, Kopf noch leer, nix verbaut, Füße wippend, Boden kalt. Dann raus in den Tag, in die weite Welt der Großstadt, hinein ins Abenteuer, mit @zhart im Ohr und Freude im Blick.

While the story of the original is about living the windsurfing dream in Jericoacoara, Fabi Yond's interpretation focuses on the nostalgia of falling in love through dancing and embracing life in the largest country of South America.

Playing at BM is such a wild card, so many vastly different vibes and qualities to each set depending on the camp, car, set up, crowd, weather and time of day or night. The vibe at Ego Trip was such a treat for us! They created an extremely cozy enveloping bohemian victorian zone with gorgeous couches, sweetly dimmed colorful lanterns, rugs, mirrors, bar, and the name sakes' thematic beauty tables where you can receive a makeover;)

So funny how the name Ego Trip can ring some little reactive bells, but the reality of their camp was so lacking in pretentiousness and gently disarming that it ended up being the set where we and the crowd went so deep on a very internal dance experience. And that profound vibe pulled one of the most immersed sets out of us we’ve played this whole year. It seemed like a mind meld where we all time traveled to return feeling like we accomplished something very healthy for our minds, bodies and souls.

Thanks Ego Trip. You created magic out there ❤
