This week in our symphony concert here in Cincinnati we performed Ravel’s wondrous work Bolero. It is all about a recurring rhythm in the snare drum and a theme that is repeated many times but orchestrated differently throughout the work. I have always found the work a testament to Ravel’s keen sense of orchestration and it inspired me to try my hand at a similar concept work.

In my tune The Voices of Elmerinth, I try to emulate this concept. I used a tabla for the rhythmic side and I created a vocal melody by combining many small vocal samples provided by the fantastic Doru Malaia!

I have remastered this and hopefully improved upon the first draft - I hope you all enjoy this and please, if you have never heard it, take a listen to Ravel’s marvelous composition Bolero - you won’t regret it!!
