This is the closet thing to the title track of my "released soon" thrash album. The idea is to go back to an AC/DC style of thrash for my generation of beer drinkers. Hell yeah!

Midlife Warfare

The first (unfinished, unmastered) mix of Bleeding Utopia - Blackest of Blood. Mixed by me. Guitar signal chain: Gibson Explorer Baritone -> TS808 -> Mesa Triple Rectifier -> Mesa standard 4x12 ->Sm57/AKG C3000/KM184 blended to perfection. No samples on the drums at all but used Drumatom (www.drumatom.com) to isolate them drums. I'm happy with the result.

A test of an theoretical idea of a new type of gate for extreme high gain guitars. I'ts played in real time, but I recorded the DI so I could export it with and without it. :)

I was asked to mix a song and I made a good price. They didn't pay though, so I removed the vocals and here it is. No advertising for them, a nice mix for you to listen to. 

It's like asking a carpenter to rebuild something and then tell them: not satisfied so you don't get any money. Not cool! You should still pay for the job that's been done, you bastard!

When I heard the huge grizzly vocals, I knew I needed to do something special to make the music be as huge. I reamped the guitars and blended with the original. Some Axe-FX, some HM-300, lots of attitude. The kick was big, I made it bigger. The snare was fat and deep, I made it fatter and deeper. Everything is crushing, because they're not playing pop, they crush! So it's a crushing mix. everything is distorted, more or less. ;)

Mycelia - Nova (song snippet)

Participants were given the same set of DI's courtesy of Jason Frankhouser, and everyone was to reamp their entry using whichever rig they prefer using ONLY an SM57 and no post processing.

...and I won! Here's how:
Obstacle 1: I had to make the guitars pop without going crazy while still be a part of the drums and bass, and not just a sound pasted on top, so I tried the Hiwatt Super-Hi, the Hermansson Marshall, the Krank Rev+ and finally the Blackstar HT5 metal into the Randall V30 and later the Malmberg G12M. 

When I was placing the mic, I realized that either I got a sharp peak in the higher mids or it didn't cut through the mix, so to get around that problem I used the Universal Audio 610 preamp and cranked the volume into the tube wich actually helped tame the high mids a bit.
I realized that the Blackstar is probably tweaked with a Vintage 30 and a single SM57 since it's really not that bright at all compare to...anything else. ;) 

So there was the combination of stuff:
OD - Blackstar HT5Metal- Malmberg G12M - SM57 - UA 610.
I still don't like the SM57 btw. :D It's clearly from the time when everyone cranked their mic-pre's and then recorded to tape, which might explain the frequency chart.

Tone Olympics 2020

I got contacted by Propellerhead Software to do the Metal part of the Reason 7 update. So I did and I really like the program. Easy, good looking and it sounds good.

It's a bit destroyed by the mp3 compression, but anyway. :) Everything is made within Reason 7 so if you own the software, there's some DI's there to have fun with. Would be fun to hear some vocals on that to see how it could transform from Rammstein to...
