An little introduction to Psych and Psych inspired music I wrote for you with a bit of history, and context. Enjoy!


In an era of turmoil, war, dissension, youth in revolt, and a slew of other changes to the moral fabric of the americas and the world, young people began to seek solace in and through various outlets. Some rallied with others against government, others experimented with new types of drugs and a hand full began to create a sound and music under the influence, a known band like 'Pink Floyd' may come to mind but there were many in that scene before it became a sound movement. Meanwhile, others modeled this sound after they themselves became influenced by other bands putting their unique twists on things. 

This was also a very monumental and pivotal time era with MLK Jr’s 'I have a dream speech, JFK and MLK's assassination, man on the moon???, the Vietnam war... the list go's on.

A new sound was birthed and it was dubbed as Psychedelic Rock. This new sound and uprise of artists around the globe taking part in creating a combination of space echos, sweeping delays, phases and flanger, created a sub-culture that spoke to a generation in unrest, and while not largely accepted by the masses, it definitely reached an apex pushing the envelope on studio creativity in sound direction, and experimental music production, without having to be under the influence. If you pay close attention, to the tracks as this mix progresses, you'll notice where the early psych-era influenced the electronic psych-like tunes, and later being used moderately, but undeniably  connected to the psychedelic period, which was a part of soul, folk, funk and blues. This early sound direction remained a steady influence on music through the decades since the late 60s. 

I've been collecting records since 1998 for influential sounds, sample purposes, and in most cases just to listen in and find the heartbeat to the 2 decades before my childhood which is the 60's and 70's. As you listen to this 60 minutes of history, you'll get a lot of psych and psych influenced tracks, beach rock, bubblegum pop, folk rock, blues rock and a little bit of jazz singed tunes all in the same vein. The fluid pumping through that vein is without a doubt, Psychedelic cultured.

The songs are from my personal collection and an ALL VINYL mix covering that time period with songs of regret, question, hopelessness, despair, hope, redemption, freedom of expression clearly highlighting a young generation in a world seeking identity, acceptance, purpose, and more importantly Love! Enjoy this rare and at times familiar collection of songs as we go on an auditory journey that'll leave you PSYCHED!

This is the first introductory volume of a series I hope to continue, which will only get deeper. This mix barely scratched the surface!
