Wow!  Just got seven Vitaphone disks and had to share a few. Your head will explode on this one! It’s Vitaphone #729 MAL HALLETT AND HIS ENTERTAINING ORCHESTRA from February 1929. The great news is that the film portion survives and therefore this short can be restored.  Needless to say, this will be added to the impending batch of 50 Vitaphone restorations. From the soundtrack, it’s clear the Hallett band didn’t just sit and play.  They’re a real PERFORMING band.

Another Vitaphone disk I got this week is for #427 FRED WARING AND HIS PENNSYLVANIANS (February, 1927).  It is one of the earliest Vitaphone band shorts.  He made two that day and the second is restored. Here they play two pop tunes: "Breezin' Along With The Breeze" (sung by Fred's brother Tom and "Me Too" with the entire band.
