Where the dead play cards

with broken shards.

Of a window where

the widows sit.



Golden teeth

and army scars

prop themselves up

at the midnight bars

SGT. Berrington

It's all broken cars

failed movie stars.

Scraping up the pennies

for a few strong jars.

All these ghosts in here

are stowaways. Away!



And it's all upside down

in this northern town

have you ever noticed

how the little children 

frown.

Beggars steal the coins

from the fight.

DOWNTRODDEN LIFE



A downtrodden life

where the rats crawl in

through the old cellar door

Boys on the lash let the

drink hide sins till their

sober.



Lost are the girls

in their dreams they 

sit and ponder.

Where are the lives

that the box sold me 

in numbers ?



Dogs seem to howl

at the moon.

They fall to order

Sinewy scraps.

Cast the scarlet

paint on their owners.



The elder statesmen 

seem to hide.

And my friend said

“Wilson's seen the light”

it's a tale of men beneath

the tide. The meat is 

tasteless from the outside.



Free are the fish

in the stream they 

pick their current.

Whilst I steal from

the drunks as they

drop their change

on the pavement.

Born in a doorway

singing their praise

to our father. 

Caught in the rush

and the hard place

seems to take over.



The red faced infant 

in swaddling clothes

is a symbol.

That the tears

of the man

will not amount to

a thimble

Think 'UP' but a bit more Tim Burton than Pixar.

Some day when we're old

was a chance to relight

all the passions the day

had restrained.

When were all sent away

and we'll find each

other by senses.

But i'll always

find you in the

depths of my heart

for it's all I ever

And when all that

remains are the shadows

of things. That I'll follow

till the end of the earth.



When the ice and the snow

freezes all I have known

I will skate on the deadly

cold pond.

When the purple bruised sky

turns all of my sighs

in to diamonds cast

into the darkness

and the light

of the days

could never replace

the delicate smile

on your face.



And we'll hold

all these memories.

4.The shadows of things

A trip into a surreal nightmarish world. Where you'll question the lord himself.



Casablanca Coat

There is will in the sun
but not all of the time
when I'm low.
You get further away
and caught in the web
of the show.
and I was
watching the scene
unfurl in a dream
like a rose in june  


I walked all the way to 
a city bar in leather boots
and a Casablanca coat.
and the diamonds cast in to the sky
left an impression of my mothers eyes
on me. Could you row the baltic 
sea in a boat? in the dead zone
it's never as easy to float

And the guys are toking on sassafras
and the girls are counting out their sacks
of brass . And if you make a break 
it's like Alcatraz. and all you can here
is latin jazz. 

And it's like asking a saviour
where do you go?
when your out in the valley 
you form no shadow.  
and it's ravens perspective 
your falling in to and the 
eyes of your father are
following you. 

Away and alone
it's the finest 
world you've known  
they never listen to 
what the lord says.
they never claim
there important.
And the smoke flows
rising up to draw the
crows.
