Brad Rau received a scholarship to attend New England Conservatory (NEC), and received a Master’s degree in 2015 with academic honors. At NEC, he studied classical guitar under Eliot Fisk who was the last pupil of Andres Segovia. Brad has performed in countless masterclasses with instructors including; Sharon Isbin, and Andrew York both Grammy award winning guitarists. Brad’s personal learning methods have enabled him to memorizing over 8 hours of the most difficult repertoire for the classical guitar. Brad was a semi-finalist in the International Texas Guitar Competition of 2008.  Brad currently studies under Grammy awarding winnings guitarist Jason Vieaux. Brad has been performing music for over 20 years all over Boston, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware, as a classical guitarist, rock guitarist, and rock drummer.  Brad currently teaching music lessons at Taylor’s Music in West Chester, and performs every Friday at the Brandywine Distillery.  Brad has mentored hundreds of students of all ages, styles and levels. Many of Brad’s students have gone on to develop their own music careers and teaching studios.

Brad’s unique teaching style combines music, physics, philosophy and humor, making him a well-rounded instructor for a variety of students.

Just Beyond the Horizon is my first piano+cello piece, and my first time releasing music that I’ve written for something other than solo piano. This music is soulful, sweeping, and epic. Take my hand, tap the play button, and come on a journey with me. 

I’d love for you to share with me what you hear in this music. Tell me what it means to you, what sort of journey it takes you on. My partner David and I hear and experience completely different things in this music, so I suspect the experience of listening to this piece will be highly personal for each of us.

This poem by R.L. Heyen is a particularly apt companion to this piece:

There’s a bit of a play on words there: ‘Approaching’ the Horizon is the solo piano piece, covering the familiar ground of writing for piano alone, and ‘Just Beyond’ the Horizon is the piano+cello piece, having pushed myself beyond the familiar to compose for a new instrument. 

Just Beyond the Horizon and Approaching the Horizon are release 25 of The 52, a project in which I am releasing a new single (or sometimes two!) every week for a year.

Just Beyond The Horizon

We all know that wonderful woman who sees everyone in the kindest light, who never sees bad intentions, even when they are directed at her. It is so beautiful and inspiring to witness, she is a person you perhaps aspire to be more like. ...and yet this spirit of generosity can open her up to being treated poorly by others: so beautiful, and sometimes quite tragic. This piece is my first blues composition.

Elliot contacted us after hearing about 333 Sessions and shared with us some of his original tracks and we were blown away. It was amazing that this accomplished of a producer was living in Melbourne and we had not head of him. We were excited to bring his talent into the light. Enjoy the mix! Words from the artist: 
The plethora of sounds that culminate within dance music are always subjective and the restraint of time often apprehends a selectors ability to truly express their own artistic language. The opportunity for a mix like this allows for a range of sounds, tempos and genres to be explored to fully capture an exhibition of expression. The approach to this mix was to take the listener along a crescendo throughout the progression of the set, whilst also allowing the emotions of the track-list to come full circle. It was a real pleasure curating this and I hope everyone enjoys the experience. Big thank you to the team behind the 333 Sessions and Flow Music for the amazing opportunity - keeping heads up during hard times.
