Hi. My name is Joe Jackson. I became an interviewer purely to meet my heroes. First in line was Leonard Cohen. But also, before meeting Leonard for the first time in 1985, I decided that I must give back to the man, something in return for all his music, poetry, and novels had given to me. So I decided to try help to undo what I perceived to be his ridiculously reductive public image as merely a merchant of gloom. Indeed, when he said – as you shall hear – about this perception that he would love it to be attacked, it became the Clarion call of a battle I have fought ever since.
