Each month we have a guest join us on the decks for an impromptu mix - this session features Joe Pea.

Joe Pea is a professional electronic music DJ and producer who is increasingly sharing his passion and talent for music across the world.  An incessant fascination with percussion and rhythm led Joe initially to taking up the drums as a hobby as a child. Upon finishing school he moved on to pursue his passion playing live music with bands in and around the Western US. A chance introduction to electronic music in 1999 in Phoenix, AZ by a friend was a transformative moment, and in less than a year Joe had decided to put down the drumsticks, start collecting vinyl and put on the headphones.  

Starting out with a gig at Buddha Lounge in 2001, Joe began a life of commitment to the dance music scene in and around Phoenix alongside other locals like Z-Trip, Marcus Schulz, RC Lair, Solomon, and Pete Salaz, where massive events with major headliners were the norm. Joe decided to move to San Diego, California in 2004 in order to truly be open to endless musical opportunities. Since then he has taken the San Diego electronic scene by storm, playing all types of events locally and abroad from club events to outdoor festivals.

Unwilling to be defined by one genre Joe has traveled North America performing in places as far as Baja, MX, Miami, Phoenix, San Francisco and Los Angeles, and at larger events such as Desert Hearts, YOUtopia, Electric Poncho, Contact, Burning Man and West Coast Weekender to play his unique eclectic sound. He has been blessed to share the decks with amazing artists such as Adam Freeland, Christian Martin, Lee Reynolds, J. Phlip, Worthy, Sunshine Jones, Claude VonStroke, DJ Heather, Gene Farris, Doc Martin, Colette, Andreas Henneberg, AK1200, DJ Dan, LTJ Bukem, Marques Wyatt, Olivier Giacomotto, DJ Garth and countless other talented musicians.

Currently Joe is focusing on music production with multiple artists in Southern California as well as maintaining his residency with the longest running house music weekly in San Diego, Dance Klassique, at Blonde Bar (16 years!), as well as DJ’ing other SD events and weeklies.  Additionally, you can find him dancing and smiling at music events  and festivals all over the West Coast, as he is a very strong supporter of the concept of music fostering community and the dance floor as a sacred space to come together as one.

If you've spent time grooving away at a house music event in San Diego then there's a likely chance that some of the beats have been coming from none other than Joe Pea. A resident for the longstanding deep house night Dance Klassique at Blonde Bar, he's been making crowds move and putting a smile on their faces with his masterfully curated sets that hit the right spot.

His expertise behind the decks doesn't stop with just house music though, as Joe has spun sets that take you to the deepest realms of techno while also laying down some pure drum and bass heat. One of the most dedicated members of the scene, when he's not taking the stage to play a set you can find him dancing away in the crowd or working behind the scenes on the production end of the spectrum.

This year has been a massive one for Joe Pea as well. Aside from the continued domination of Dance Klassique, he's taken the stage at festivals like Genius Loci while also teaming up with fellow San Diegan Susio on "Should've Worn Pants". Now, with some upcoming sets at Burning Man and BrokenBeat on the horizon, he's gifted us all with a mix to groove out to and keep those summer vibes rolling.

Joe Pea is a seasoned electronic music DJ and producer hailing from The Pacific Northwest, USA. His musical journey began with a childhood passion for percussion, leading him to play drums in various bands across the Western United States. In 1999, a transformative experience in the Arizona Desert, turned him onto electronic music and culture, prompting him to transition from live bands to DJing and vinyl collecting. 

Over the past two decades, Joe has become a prominent figure in the West Coast underground dance scene, performing at renowned festivals such as Burning Man, Lightning in a Bottle, Dirtybird Campout, Desert Hearts, and Oregon Eclipse Festival. He has shared the stage with notable artists including Claude VonStroke, Nick Fanciulli, Pig&Dan, Doc Martin, and many more. 
Although Joe has fully moved to the PNW, he is still a resident DJ at Dance Klassique, San Diego’s longest-running house music weekly. A pillar in the Southern California dance community for over 25 years.

Beyond his performances, Joe is a passionate advocate for the dance floor as a sacred space for community and connection.

Additionally, you can find him dancing and working at music events and festivals all over the U.S., as he is a very strong supporter of the concept of music, fostering community and the dance floor as a sacred space to come together as one.
