Artificial intelligence, a sublabel of Warp.

The best of Warp records and ambient-techno from 1991 to 1998. In 1992, Warp records released the highly influential compilation Artificial intelligence that was 25 years ago. I made this mix of my favorite Warp tracks but also some other tracks released on similar influential labels at the same time such as GPR (General production recordings), Rising high records and Apollo. 1991 to 1995 was for me the best era of electronic music. Enjoy!

Artificial intelligence

Fort Romeau takes you inside the world of the electronic music experimenters.

UK producer Michael Greene has been releasing music under the alias Fort Romeau since 2012 via labels like Ghostly International, Running Back, and Live at Robert Johnson. But we first discovered his prowess on Tim Sweeney’s excellent Beats in Space radio show in November 2014, sharing a double bill with Jackmaster.

We’re still listening to that set, on repeat, three years later, alongside new favourites and his own releases, which is why we’ve wanted to tap him for our VF mix series for some time.

To coincide with Fort Romeau’s new Emulators EP out on Running Back, he’s selected one of his biggest influences – electronic experimenters The Future Sound of London – for VF Mix 106. Listen to the mix and discover why Fort Romeau has chosen FSOL below.

“Brain Dougans and Garry Cobain have released a dizzying amount of music under a plethora of guises, the most well known of which is The Future Sound of London. I’ve been a huge fan of their output for many years and wanted to showcase some of their lesser known tracks in this mix alongside a couple of stone cold classics,” says Greene.

“Navigating their extensive discography is a bit of a task, and can be difficult to get your head around, so I narrowed my focus down to predominantly early singles, before the group hit the big time with ‘Papua New Guinea’, which ironically marked the end of the group’s dance/rave era.”

For people unfamiliar with the group, check out the debut album Accelerator as it epitomises the early FSOL sound, and for my money is the best UK techno LP of the early 90s.”

Monkey Teachers

This is my DJ mix from the Daphni 'JIAOLONG' album release party at the Bussey Building in Peckham, London, UK.

It was recorded live and performed with 3 Pioneer CDJ 2000s playing digital files, an E&S DJR400 mixer and a Boss RE-20 Space Echo pedal.

All 7.5 hours are here - warts and all. Apologies for the occasionally crunchy sound quality and periodic lapses in mixing. It's only split into two parts because it was too long to upload as one file.

It was a fantastic night - thank you to all of you who were there and to Huntleys & Palmers for putting the night on. But as many of you were unable to attend for geographic and other reasons, I wanted to share it with you this way.

We continue 25 years of Solid Steel with a mix from Photek, a legendary figure in music since the early nineties who featured many times on the show with tracks from Modus Operadi, Form & Function up to Pyramid from his recent album Ku:Palm, plus 'Into the 90's' from 1994 that also featured on Coldcut's Journeys by DJ mix CD. There are infinite good reasons why every religion on the planet, and every true Shaman today says that the only way to the light, is by having the love, courage, and action to go into your deepest darkness within you and to face everything you're afraid of facing about yourself. Which is exactly what sacred divine plants like Ayahuasca allows us to do, this deep inner work within us as these plants take us millions of times deeper within where the blind ego-thinking mind is terrified of going. Deep inner work that cannot be done by the lies of logic and cannot be done by the everyday rational thinking mind, as all thought is in past or future, and time in and of itself is total illusion. Therefore, the thinking ego-mind is totally useless.

Only by facing all your darkness and ALL your shadows can light ever be revealed, and it is a perfect Universal law of Nature and Spirit of infinite intelligent design.

As your darkness is your greatest teacher in the Universe. And your darkness will be there lifetime through lifetime through lifetime through all your incarnations until you have the love, courage, and action to go deep into your darkness. Because your darkness is there to teach you. That's what it's there for.

So instead of projecting your own darkness unto others with the silly blame-game and labeling others in all your illusions and delusions by your silly beliefs and false projections (as all you are doing is admitting all your own pain inside you in your total blindness  that you are afraid to go deep into and face), go deep into your darkness. 2 + 2 = 5

   But of course no church ever teaches these things, even though it is blatantly stated in the scriptures, because churches are total liars as reaching for the light is what creates all the darkness within. As Truth IS Always Paradoxical.
