“...human kind cannot bear very much reality”. But as Kerouac knew, impermanence is as much about loss as giddying freedom, and Joy Sparkes / Joe Miller enjoy giddying freedom.

Voraciously collaborative, Joy has lent her wide vocal range to Simplex (Obese Records), K21 ("Won’t Stop" has over 80,000 YouTube views and Theory of Face featured on the soundtrack to P.J. Hogan’s "Mental"), and the electronic trio Question Question (Pilot Records). Joe brings a DJ’s ear to the pair, having played alongside Andrew Weatherall, Agoria and Lusine. He won the inaugural Balance Community Mix competition in 2013, and has gained recognition from UK’s iDJ Magazine for his melodious and nostalgia-laced selections.

The pair first collaborated when Joy turned up at a picnic in the botanic gardens and sang into a conveniently-placed field recorder. The resulting track was quickly snagged by Amsterdam’s Manual Music and later re-released on the German Voltaire imprint. This year, they’re pairing up to write protest songs, thoughtful songs and fucking songs and press their first EP.
