Back in 2017 before we recorded our first studio record The Roving Scallywags recorded a small group of three traditional songs.  This is one of them.  Originally written by Pete St. John in 1979

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War 1 and Memorial Day, I have cut a version of the song “Green Fields of France.”  It is dedicated to all of the soldiers out there who have had to pay the ultimate price for their country and never returned home.

Enclosed is an instrumental track I had been messing around with for a while and finally decided to record it.   This was all one take live with acoustic and stomp box.  It is named and inspired by General Michael Collins of the IRB who's gorilla was with England gave Ireland their independence.  Sadly he was unable to negotiate out the six counties to the north and as he said, "Signed my own death warrant," when the treaty was signed.  He would later be killed on the roadside of his home county of Cork by gunmen of the IRA.
