Four quintessential examples of editing finesse as newcomer Wonkar explores his extensive soul and boogie collection. With full emphasis squared on the slinky basslines, slower tempos and languishing grooves, each cut is a shimmering highlight in itself. He's also done shown some sensitivity to the art of digging without going too obscure. Notable moments include the stuttering '80s drum-heavy repurpose of Xena's "On The Upside" and the chubbed up low-end of Starpoint's "Last Night". There's also some cheeky Gap Band references buried deep in this killer EP too. Get this upside your head as soon as possible!

To heavily draw upon your retro influences but still sound current is a tricky old business, but our lovable 'Muddyloop' do exactly that, as their latest single 'If This Isn't Love' perfectly captures those nostalgic feel-good 80s vibes, yet also manages to sound like it should be a heavy rotation 'Radio 1' a-lister!

'If This Isn't Love' is actually the first single to be taken from Muddyloop's much acclaimed 'Back Together Ep' and boasts the ever gutsy 'Lucy Lawrence' on lead vocals, who totally smashes it, and delivers a quite astonishing vocal performance. Add that to Muddyloop's hard hitting groove and you've got yourself a winning combination of pastiche perfection, showing the World just how talented this London based four-piece band really are!

In true Mullet style, we thought it rude not to include some tasteful remixes and asked our Mullet brethren's 'Casio Social Club', 'Dragon Suplex' and 'Joeblack' to do the honours. Everybody's favourite Brazilian 'Joeblack', slows the tempo right down and kills it with yet another mid 80s cod-piece swinging Boogie delight... OUCH!

Cultures of Soul Records is proud to present Greg Belson's Divine Disco - American Gospel Disco 1974 to 1984, curated and researched by Gospel Soul music authoritarian Greg Belson. Greg Belson's Divine Disco is a snapshot in time encapsulating the raw power of a spiritual performance, set to the pulsating 4/4 rhythms that were in vogue with the dance floors of the day.

Labels like Savoy played a key part in identifying artists that fit nicely into this brand new style with performers like Shirley Finney and The Gospelaires, both of whom were established within the scene, but carried the ‘Disco’ torch brightly with their tunes featured here. Divine Disco also paints a picture of the lesser known acts that privately released their message to the hopeful masses, such as the Gospel Ambassadors and the Inspirational Souls, whose recording budgets would have been signifi-cantly less than any ‘major’ label. As proven here, they had no less of an impact to the listener.

Other tracks on this compilation such as Betty Griffin's "Free Spirit" have become big club spins for the likes of the NYC Downlow and Horse Meat Disco crews. Also included are recently discovered tunes like the Masters of Music's "Trouble Don't Last Always" as well as a future classic by The Testi-monial Singers, which features several young members of the Winans Family. We’ve got you covered too for those more modern soul, boogiefied moments with rarities from Delores Fuller, Herman Harris and two offerings from the killer LP by Enlightment. This compilation also includes remixes and edits by Steve Cobby (who was a member of Fila Brazillia) and Rahaan. Coming out on July 8th!

Eagerly awaited album Retroflection was released on October 19th 2018 and saw the revered collective recreating 12 soul, disco and boogie classics pivotal to their formation nearly 20 years ago and subsequent hugely successful evolution. O porto-alegrense Joeblack nunca escondeu sua paixão pela black music. Desde cedo já preferiria discos de artistas como Barry White e Stevie Wonder a brinquedos que qualquer garoto de sua idade gostaria de ter.  Ouvindo aos 4 anos os Lps do irmão mais velho, teve contato com as vertentes da soul pop da época, representadas pelo grupo Earth Wind and Fire, o já citado Stevie Wonder e pelo até então emergente megastar Michael Jackson e sua pérola Off the Wall. Desde então, contaminado pelo poder do ritmo e das melodias negras, Joeblack começou a vislumbrar uma carreira musical.
Com o passar dos anos, já na faculdade de comunicação social, onde se formou em Publicidade e Propaganda, Joeblack fez parte de uma banda de soul music montada pelos seus colegas chamada The Hard Working Band, como um dos vocalistas. O grupo fez muito sucesso no Rio Grande do Sul, gravando 3 discos em 7 anos.
Depois desse começo bem sucedido na música, Joeblack partiu rumo ao centro do país para tentar mostrar seu trabalho enquanto produtor, que consiste numa mescla de r&b, soul e hip hop. Influenciado por Quincy Jones, Babyface e Teddy Riley, o cantor/produtor começou em 2005 a produzir músicas para diversos nomes que começavam a despontar no cenário do hip-hop em São Paulo. Apesar de ter lançado em 2003 um EP com 5 músicas, Joeblack decidiu dar um tempo no seu trabalho enquanto cantor e resolveu concentrar-se na produção de outros artistas como Quelynah, WX, Rodrigo Moratto, Negra Li, Goobie. Ele também assinou remixes para o projeto Limão (do site Limão), para a cantora Cindy e o grupo Antônia. 
Em 2011, lançou despretensiosamente o projeto Mundo Paralelo vol. 1, que homenageia a música negra da década de 80. Suas músicas “Delorean”, “Agora Vai” e “Voltar” com participação da cantora Angel B, chamaram a atenção da cena dos dançarinos de São Paulo, tornando o EP bem conhecido no meio. Essas músicas também conseguiram atingir um público internacional, uma vez que o projeto fez parte de diversas edições do programa em formato de podcast “Soul Unsigned” do DJ londrino Phil Driver.
O interesse do produtor é fazer com que sua sonoridade construa uma cena de r&b forte aqui no Brasil e competitiva no mercado internacional. Atualmente faz parte do grupo de produção WeAreTheHit, junto com os também produtores Riztocrat (Sevenlox) e Victor PLG Reis (com o WATH, Joeblack produziu o álbum “Boombox Arcade” da Banda Cine). Em 2013, lançou o volume 2 do seu projeto Mundo Paralelo, que conta com participações especiais de Momo King aka Tonho Crocco, Juliano Barreto e Sevenlox.
