Ish shoulda asked Joe on question... If it was you or your son or your mom in the same situation would you still think that they should go to jail? It was an accident and Alec has to live with that for the rest of his life. Please get killed in car accidents every day & generally people don't go to jail for it (Case in point - Brandy) especially when no one was negligent or intoxicated. The company (and not the person) that was responsible for the guns would be liable.
