And here is the story:

Something like five months ago I bought an MPC500. Weird machine, I was used to the speed of a computer DAW. Fast workflow, endless options on a distance of a mouse click.
Acquiring this MPC seemed cool, I was trying to move away from the computer but on the first tries, I hated the MPC. Sluggish, not many options and the weird workflow I couldn't grasp at first.

It sat gathering dust for two months. And I didn't even make any song on the computer at this time. I tried, but It was boring. I gave the machine one more chance and as I started to get how it worked I noticed I was zoning out of the stuff around me. I was in the music, concentrating. Zen style shit for sure.

I'm still learning but now I can understand people buzzing around gear. You can connect to it and it gives you back all the energy you put into it. It's a symbiotic relationship where you end up being filled with joy. 

All here was composed using the MPC500, a Walkman and two shitty guitar pedals. EQ'ued and Compressed in Ableton.

This little tape is worth of a month and a half of actual beat making. Not golden disc material, yeah, but I'm proud of it and I hope it can make your head bump a bit and maybe a smile on your face :).

500 Paths

this past year, i had the chance to write music for two games developed by a team of students at my school. this is the first piece to come out of that, “centuries of steel.” it is the battle music for M.M.O.V.R., a wave-based cyberpunk shooter. players take on the role of distant future gladiators in VR, fighting an endless stream of (stolen?) robots. this stadium may have shone at one point, but that was a long, long time ago.
