The "secret world within a secret world" is Andrew talking about listening to Ivor Cutler records on the John Peel show, while under the duvet on a walkman with headphones on. 

"Monet's absinthe dealer" is the description some "wag on Twitter" gave Andrew's stylish (then) new beard, a few years ago.
