Brussel's beat smith DC SALAS is back on the block - the Robert Johnson block that is! His 3rd release for LIVE AT ROBERT JOHNSON is also his 20th official release to date - so we have two things to celebrate spread over Diego Cortez Salas' powerful four-tracks EP called 'Voces'.
Let's start with the title track: 'Voces' is a call to alarm right from the beginning with its stabbing synth bass line and sirens. Add a couple of drum breaks and a heavy beat - et voilà: You have the first of four tunes to jump up and down to. Et oui, Salas surely knows how to built tension in a track - even in a voiceless track named 'Voces'.
Next up is 'The Lights' - and oh boy does Salas turn them on! These are quite trippy lights with a sound that could easily come from a twisted didgeridoo … The beat of 'The Lights' is (of course) groovy as f*** - excuse our French. So let's turn on 'The Lights'!
B-side opener 'Metallic Glow' does just that: The track glows in bright metallic from the first second and features plenty of crazy sounds to do a crazy dance. Did we mention the groove? No? Well … just listen.
For 'Safe Pace' Diego pulls out beautiful percussive elements and the 303 thus surfing on a not so safe pace to be honest: The last track of 'Voces' is as fast and demanding as all the others.
DC Salas again manages to build four really solid stompers to set any dancefloor on fire - these are REALLY SERIOUS SOUNDS you all should listen and dance to. NOW.

The interesting Dance Petrol Records wraps its solid 2023 season by delivering the third episode of its end-of-the-year traditional compilation “Selected Fuels”. Through their bits, Jorginho Joao, Etur Usheo, Masupilami & Ferdi Funkestein, and So.undso, the label bosses themselves, precisely showcase the essence of the sonority intended by the German imprint: House Music at its very best independently of the position the theme occupies within the vast spectrum of the genre. 

Premiered here, Christoph and Markus’s contribution must have startled those familiar with their output as So.undso. Heavily influenced by early House and Garage with shards of Disco, the Bavarian duo decided to cook something way different to the colourful VA: “Just Like Before” comes soaked in Italo blended with a powerful acid aura. The throbbing bassline and playful synth layers & leads set the tone of the frolic and upbeat cut devoted to making people hit the dance floor, shut up, and dance!

La Mano returns to his Sound Du Jour label with an emotive three-tracker.

The title track on La Mano’s ‘Fabricca’ EP is a deep and evocative piece featuring heavy-duty reverbs, distant snares and gorgeous arp melodies. ‘Fabricca’ marks La Mano’s return to his Sound Du Jour label, following his 2021 ‘Tarvisio’ EP, which launched the label, and a remix for MAN 2.0’s ‘Synapse’ on the imprint shortly after. Since then, he has gone on to release a remix for Man Power on Me Me Me and work on releases with the likes of Andy Ash, Marcus Christiansen and Demetae via Sound Du Jour.

‘Fiume’ is up next on La Mano’s ‘Fabricca’ EP. It’s an ever-evolving dreamscape on an electro tip, digitised birdsong occasionally breaking through its vibrant layers of harmony. This is before ‘Onda’ closes out the release via rich pads, a gated vocal, and club-ready drums. It’s the perfect finish for another versatile and melodic offering on Sound Du Jour.

Meet Leng’s latest signings, Liminal – a Danish duo comprised of guitarist, multi-instrumentalist and producer David Rosenkilde, and DJ, producer and sound engineer Morten Troest. 

The pair first met when Rosenkilde was booked to perform as a session musician at Troest studio. They clicked immediately so with Troest’s studio skills and inherent knowledge of what works on dancefloors paired with Rosenkilde’s abilities as a musician they decided to produce their own music together working to one simple rule: try out every idea, however outlandish!

Since then, Rosenkilde and Troest have been recording their debut album that’s set for release on Leng later in 2025. First, though, we get a taste of their talents via ‘Keep Coming Back To Me’, an impressive debut single that blends electric and electronic instrumentation while keeping its focus fixed on the dancefloor.

Ushered in by shakers, rubbery bass and flanged guitar licks, ‘Keep Coming Back To Me’ blurs the boundaries between colourful nu-disco, low-slung dub disco and the sun-splashed beauty of the more club-friendly end of the Balearic spectrum. It boasts a hazy, multi-tracked and lightly glassy-eyed lead vocal, as well as a nagging TB-303 acid line that works its way to the fore as the track progresses, adding extra layers of excitement and energy as it unfolds.

Remixer Ray Mang (AKA long-time friend of the label Raj Gupta) takes the latter element as his inspiration on a stunning, nine-minute plus remix that brilliantly re-frames the track as a blend of tactile 21st century nu-disco colour, hypnotic proto-house and analogue-rich, acid-fired Chicago jack. Re-playing the bassline in an early Chicago house style and reaching for lo-fi and spacey synth sounds, the veteran British producer frequently strips the track back to the groove before re-introducing the vocal and the dreamiest of chords.

Liminal also display their sonic diversity on bonus cut ‘The Moon Is Changing’, a wonderfully atmospheric and star-lit affair in which spacey ambient chords, twinkling electric piano keys and intergalactic electronics slowly usher in a mid-tempo Norse nu-disco groove. The pair build slowly, adding vocals and layered guitar licks. The results are hard to pigeonhole but thoroughly impressive, offering a tantalising glimpse of what’s to come on their must-check debut album.

Ray Mang is Laj is Raj Gupta. One of the premier disco producers since way back when and still clocking forwards in a future fashion with no sign of letting up. He landed his first 12” Number One in ’96 on Noid Recordings gaining widespread support in the clubs and on compilations. He has taken that wonky party sound and kept it moving on ever since.  He also runs the label Mangled and has released across too many labels to mention. He is prolific with the quality control on high.

He launched his own label Mangled in ’98 with a slew of killer 12-inches. Two albums followed: ‘Mangled’ (Eskimo) and ‘Mangled Again’ on his own imprint, as well as singles on R&S, Smash Hit and Bear Funk. Recent hits include ‘Bullet Proof’ on DFA featuring Lady Miss Kier, a disco-house reimagining of a P-funk classic; and the blissed-out Balearic gem ‘Look Into My Eyes’ which instantly became a firm favourite for many.

His many talents as a musician and producer have driven a wealth of collaborations: in bands Block 16 and Motif on seminal ’90s label Nuphonic; as Laj with the Idjut Boys on U-Star, or with Quakerman on their own Fiasco imprint; and with close musical acquaintances The Glimmers, Foolish Felix, Lee Tong and Nathan D’Troit.  More recently Ray has teamed up with Bill Brewster to form Mang Dynasty.  In all his guises Ray Mang is one of the most prolific contributors to the UK disco/house canon.

As a remixer his phone never stops ringing.  He’s notched up credits for  Lassigue Bendthaus, Banda Black Rio, Gorillaz, Shirley Bassey, Grand National, Beck, Roxy Music / Bryan Ferry, Doves, The Phenomenal Handclap Band, Freddie Mercury, Bloc Party, Munk, Rob Garza, Friendly Fires, Classixx, S-Express, Daniel Grau & Los Amigos Invisibles with Dimitri From Paris to name just a few.
 
As a globe trotting DJ he plays at festivals, clubs, bars and on beaches in some of the most beautiful locations around the world.  His incendiary sets blend house, disco, boogie, cosmic, balearic, latin, afro, along with anything that takes his fancy and sneak previews of his own forthcoming monsters.  As happy playing peak time Saturday night as he is providing the soundtrack to your sunset moment in paradise.  Recent trips have taken him to Brazil, USA, Bali, Japan, Australia, Mexico, Croatia, Ibiza and all over Europe. He has also become a regular at festivals like Electric Elephant, Festival No 6, Campo Sancho and Mareh & O/NDA in Brazil.

Alongside his work with Hot Chip, The 2 Bears, and HARD FEELINGS, Joe Goddard keeps busy as a solo artist, songwriter, producer, DJ, remixer, and co-founder of the Greco-Roman record label. Across all his projects, he is driven by a hunger for experimentation, an innate understanding of dance, pop, and indie music’s inner workings, and a heartfelt love of collaboration.

Joe embraces the role of ‘producer’ on a musical, practical, and spiritual level. His infatuation with dance music began as a teenager in the ’90s, attending clubnights where he progressed from indie and hip hop to drum’n’bass to house and garage.

On top of his solo records, Joe has released eight albums with Hot Chip, two with The 2 Bears, and one with HARD FEELINGS. Other projects include Extra Credit (with Justin Strauss and Marcus Marr) and A Pulse Train (with Caribou’s Dan Snaith, Floating Points, and others). He’s worked with Jarvis Cocker, Peter Gabriel, and Bernard Sumner; remixed Jessie Ware, Kraftwerk, and Disclosure; co-wrote Katy Perry’s “Into Me You See”; and released the 2011 hit “Gabriel” with Valentina.
