It’s June 2003, and the power trio of Tony, Halo & Hipp-e have formed a supergroup under the guise The 6400 Crew to unleash a 12-inch that would take the summer by storm. “Dubb Me Some’tin Fresh” quickly garnered support from the upper echelons of the DJ community for its unrelenting groove and its unabashed tribute to the music of producers like Lee Scratch Perry and King Tubby. Fast forward 13 years, and this single further cements itself in the history of Yoshitoshi with a Classic remix pack.

It’s with great pleasure that we welcome LV boss Hector to the label, and Sinisa Tamamovic follows up his two recent EP’s for Yoshitoshi with his powerful contribution. Add to this a deeper remix from Sharam and you have three enormous remixes that each command serious attention. Hector’s mix keeps many aspects of the original, modernizing them with his powerful grooves. Sinisa’s approach incorporates the producer’s signature bass lines into a massive rework of the classic beat, and Sharam does what Sharam does best - flipping the track into a fresh, new mix that is sure to please a multitude of audiences. Finally, the original mix has been remastered for the modern DJ.

Spanish DJ / Producer David Horrero’s music has been a staple in the record bags of Stacey Pullen, Marco Carola, Loco Dice, Nic Fanciulli, and Richie Hawtin. Defected, Cr2 Records, VIVa Music, Toolroom, Suara have all played home to David’s releases and with such an impressive track record it’s no wonder Stacey Pullen snapped David up to release a second EP on his Blackflag imprint. 

David’s most recent triumph was at the end of last year when he released his fourth album on Nic Fanciulli’s Saved imprint entitled ‘Body, Soul and Other Things’. 

For his next release David returns to Blackflag with his “The World Is Not The Same” EP, where he serves up three tech-house killers all with their own individual quirks but all with a common theme, to slay the dancefloor on any occasion.

Every raver has their sunrise story. It usually takes place around 6 AM, after dancing all night, when the first rays of light usher in a new musical energy, something wild and magical. It’s the kind of moment people romanticize for years, even decades after. Such was the desired effect of Luzon’s 2002 classic Manila Sunrise. The tune contains a raw, tribal energy that few others can claim. Drawing influence from the Goa scene, it’s twirling pads and majestic vocal made it an instant progressive house staple that redefined the genre. We’re proud to bring back this insatiable classic for our fifteenth Yoshitoshi Classic remix pack, with contributions from three of today’s finest producers — label owner Sharam, Swiss studio ace Khainz, and New York techno legend Boris.

Sharam’s remix adds some modern flare to the original's progressive nature. He injects some dark, drum n’ bass-inspired sounds, a catchy new melody, and a beautiful, pad-and-vocal driven breakdown that transports listeners and club-goers to another dimension. Khainz makes his Yoshitoshi debut with a remix that boasts a myriad of stabs, effects, and other synth wizardry over a driving, tech house groove. His monstrous builds give away to exhilarating, unapologetic release. Finally, Boris transforms the track into a percussion-driven monstrosity that smacks of the classic New York 90's techno sound. The mix itself is built around banging drums and heavy bass, while the original’s delicate vocal contrasts the brutal nature of his remix, creating a powerful sonic dichotomy. As usual, we have included a remaster of the timeless original mix to complete this package. Enjoy.

Sharam has remixed Shakira’s Official FIFA World Cup song, ‘Waka Waka‘. The Grammy-winning DJ has applied his unique touch to Shakira’s original, transforming it into a dance floor anthem worthy of a World Cup winner, complete with his signature sound and African-style drums.

Shakira said, “Sharam has brought a unique spin to his interpretation of “Waka Waka”.  He has brought the song to the dancefloor. This is one of those artistic collaborations that makes perfect sense.”

The FIFA World Cup is easily the most widely viewed and followed sporting event in the world, exceeding the Olympics which put the “Waka Waka” remixes on a world stage.  The song is already in the hands of the world’s top DJs and will be released later this month.

“Anyone who knows me will tell you I am a sports buff and the FIFA World Cup is the biggest sporting event in the world. To work on the official song is a landmark achievement for me, something I’ve dreamt about doing since making music became a part of my life. I have always admired Shakira’s unique twist on pop music and when she asked me to remix Waka Waka, I didn’t hesitate,” says Sharam.

Yoshitoshi Recordings boss Sharam kicks off his Washington DC house music outlet's 25-year anniversary celebrations with tasty new single that he has been teasing for months, 'Lobi'.

Sitting at the heart of this ardent dancefloor tune is a sample lifted from a unique tribal song sung by the Lobi tribe of Eastern Africa. Fine-tuned for peak moments during his sets, Sharam's latest track uses a spectral 303 riffs and gut-wrenching bass fills that are bound to give you chills.

The big opener here is ‘Piano Dance’ featuring Mr V and it brings freakiness to the fore with diving bass synths and metallic claps overlaid with an intense spoken word vocal. The second sizzler is ‘Flauta’, which is another tension building cut that teases a lead flute line that will get the floor in raptures.

The label has produced some of dance music's most timeless records, including some of Deep Dish's own early work & remixes, plus iconic tracks like Chiapet's 'Westworld' and 'Tick Tock', Brother Brown's 'Under The Water', Kings of Tomorrow's numerous classics as KOT and Mysterious People, YMC's 'Last Stop,' Dino Lenny's 'I Feel Stereo,' 2 Smokin' Barrels' 'Basses Loaded,' Sasha & BT's seminal '2 Fat C**ts,' Lexicon Ave's 'Here I Am,' Loudeast's 'Lights Off!' and many many more. For the Techno edition of Yoshitoshi 25, we've dug deep into the archives and pulled out the finest tracks that define the darker side of Yoshitoshi's history. This includes remastered versions of classic tracks like Dish Out Bum's 'Gak Trak' Chiapet's 'Tick Tock,' 2 Smokin' Barrels' 'Basses Loaded,' and Timeline's 'Clockwork Orange,' as well as modern cuts like Victor Ruiz's 'Rollercoaster,' ANNA's 'Momentum,' Nicole Moudaber's seminal remix of Alcatraz's 'Give Me Luv', and Loco & Jam and Frankyeffe's 'Splitting Minds.' To spice things up, we've included three brand new remixes from Moonwalk, label regular Olivier Giacomotto, and Dubspeeka. Moonwalk takes on Phil Kieran's 'I Love You,' creating a deep mix that emphasizes the Italian duo's knack for catchy, earworm synth patterns and hold-your-breath build-ups that deliver in the club. 'Yoshitoshi Celebrates 25 Years with Three Genre-Focused Compilations : House, Techno, Melodic House.

For the Melodic House edition of Yoshitoshi 25, we’ve focused on the tracks that were either too proggy for house or too melodic for techno. Many house historians would claim that this sound has been Yoshitoshi’s bread and butter throughout the years, and this final entry into the Yoshitoshi 25 compilation series demonstrates exactly why. As with the other two compilations, we’ve selected a handful of freshly remastered, stone-cold classics such as PQM’s “You Are Sleeping (Luke Chable Mix),” Valentino’s “Flying,” and Morel’s “True (The F****t Is You - Deep Dish Remix),” and mixed them up with the most memorable modern records from Yoshitoshi’s catalogue like OC & Verde’s “Indica,” Khainz’s “Collider,” and Red Axes’ remix of Dino Lenny’s “I Feel Stereo.” Of course the package wouldn’t be complete without some new remixes, so Sharam and Armonica have delivered some beautifully-crafted reworks of Yoshitoshi classics. Sharam takes on Luzon’s mega-classic “The Baguio Track,” turning the tune into a dark roller that has been the talk of his recent Burning Man sets. Armonica crafted an amazing remix of Anarcrusan’s “In My Mind” that winds gracefully between delicate, dreamy riffs and bouncy, bass-driven breakdowns.
