This And That is a label dedicated to Techno and House music. Ran by Davide Squillace, as well as being one of the world’s leading DJ’s, he is also an influential producer whose music can be found on No.19 Music, Hot Creations, Moon Harbour, Desolat, VIVa MUSiC, Minus and pretty much any other scene leading label you can think of.

Previous releases on This and That have included music from the likes of Carlo Lio, Riva Starr, Carl Cox, Lee Van Dowski, Guti, Re.You, Doorly plus Jesse Rose, and this new release welcome's back Basti Grub for his second release on the label.

German born Basti Grub has previously released on imprints such as Kling Klong, Kittball, Desolat, Cocoon, Get Physical and Moan, where his stripped back production style has proved popular with the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Loco Dice and Luciano.

Basti Grub’s eclectic sound incorporates everything from exotic African vocals to dub Reggae and relaxed piano passages, which along with his interesting use of voices and song structure combine to create his unique and distinctive production style. 

Dancefloor focused and with tribal drums, this House focused release also features a collaboration with Mike Trend and guest vocals from Schtu.

The EP’s title track “I Only Like You” has a dark vibe and hypnotic vocals that sung in almost a whisper, fill the track with a menacing euphoria. The rolling groove provided by the intricate drum rhythms and rumbling bass line is carefully programmed to be both eloquent and energetic. Quirky with just a touch of chic, this stunning tracks sums up the outstanding quality of the release.

Track two “`Stand Up” fuses a verity of different vocal textures that on their own would sound soothing and soulful, but combined with the spooky melody they give the track an eerie feel. This unnerving combination creates a captivating sense of excitement and thrilling suspense. Spacious production and intricate notation provide the finishing touches to this shimmering masterpiece.

The third track titled “Come On And Do” is a collaboration with Mike Trend who boasts solo outings on Amazing Music and has previously collaborated with Basti for releases on Kina Music and a number of other scene leading labels. Come On And Do has a laid back vibe with soft vocals that washed harmony, are gentle and calming. Warm pads help keep things chilled and some interesting key changes add some subtle Jazz influence.

Finishing the release is “Li Di” which features the mystifying vocal chants of Schtu, who has previously worked with Basti for a release on Bar25 Music. Lead by fast flowing tribal drums, the track has a primal feel with a raw and primitive sound. Simple and straight to the point, this taps into the core of what makes people dance with an energetic, infectious groove tailor made for the dancefloor.

Heading up the debut release for the new Mexico based Elison Imprint, Nima Gorji yields a slice of cosmic minimal, remixed by East End Dubs and Varhat.

Stripping back from the original’s intricate groove, East End Dub’s orchestrates a new, high energy direction for the track. Delicate textures glisten at the rear of the mix, driven by a slick, unhurried bassline built for the dance floor. Intelligent additions accompany Nima's ideas, subtle melodies dance in unison alongside features from the original, supplementing the existing rolling vibe with a touch of UK tech house familiar with the likes of London labels Fuse and Eastenderz.

Elements drift in and out of a steady arrangement, drawing on flexibility for DJ’s to perform extended mixes with the track. This relaxed, incessant sound typical of the producers from this corner of dance music has spread to a global scale in recent years. Elison Imprint is a worldwide project, operating out of Mexico and led by Spanish based Nima Gorj, the first release stretches across the globe remixed by London native East End Dubs and Parisian mainstay Varhat.

Hungarian based artist, Daniel Meister, is showing some class skills in production. He introduced himself on the best way rocking two remixes, one for Filip Fisher and one for Jelly For The Babies! "Lirios" has a definite breakbeat feel to it, with frantic, nervous, glitchy grooves and deep-house keys evolving delicately throughout ten hypnotic minutes. "Sangre y fuego" provides a constant harmonic tension all-along, with a solid sub bassline and psychedelic female vocal snippets surprising the listener every now and then for an overall clever mental piece. Finally, Invade Records Ilario Liburni treats us to a more efficient energetic take on "Sangre y fuego", with a richer arrangement and more "straight-to-the-point" approach.

With releases to date via the likes of Little Helpers, Low Groove and Black Sea Side Music, Saint-Petersburg’s Arkady Antsyrev is the latest rising name to emerge from Russia’s ever-impressing and growing house scene. A favorite and regular within his home city, here we see him make a debut appearance on James Dexter’s fledgling Inermu imprint as he delivers two original productions backed by a remix from the label boss himself.

Title cut ‘For Us’ opens the package as Antsyrev combines dubby chords and rich low-end tones amongst refined, regimented percussion arraignments, whilst ‘Vibe Swimming’ brings an introduction of warmer melodies, skipping hats and a snaking bassline. Last up, James Dexter’s interpretation of ‘For Us’ sees the label head introduce punchy kicks and hazy lead melodies over the original’s slick rolling groove line to close the EP in style.

German groove master Christian Burkhardt returns to Hottrax with another essential release entitled ‘Wrecking EP’ featuring three stripped back cuts. Burkhardt is in a real purple patch of form right now, with big collaborative releases on Do Not Sleep, Leftroom and Celesta. Always cooking up fresh new minimal house sounds that are expertly produced, he blends dance floor clout with plenty of cinematic sound design and does that again here. Finishing off a superb EP is ‘Swiffer’, this tie with unresolved loops of knotted, rasping bass, melting vocals and loose percussion that are perfect for cosy backroom sessions.
