Only Blood

This is a "b-side" track from my upcoming album Dead Man's Melody. Meaning it's been cut from the album. It never quite fit in. The tone doesn't quite match up, too personable, I think. The album itself, Dead Man’s Melody, is a full-throttle, gritty and groovy rock album of (now) nine interrelated songs that weave a perverse, sometimes jovial story of desperation and disastrous love, drugs and murder that culminates in a SWAT team standoff, a hail of bullets and a chopper in the air. So, this one didn't make the cut. But I'm very happy to share it on here because I quite like it on it's own. Give it a spin!

Dead Man's Melody is a theatrical record that follows the story of a number of questionable characters with questionable dealings. The themes of lust, murder, sacrifice, infatuation, darkness, and the ultimate showdown with death run deep through the album-but not without a good dose of Hynes's notoriously rousting humour.

Another track recorded for the Dead Man's Melody album sessions that got pulled from the final arrangement. This is an unmastered mix, recorded at Marquee Sound Studios in Toronto in January, 2017.

Never Quite There

Here's a very gracious, humble, hopeful and energetic interview Ron Hynes gave in CBC Studios in St. John's, Jan 4th, 1992 with host Bernie Stapleton. Bernie had an amazing show called Keynotes and I believe this was her inaugural show. Ron is 41 years old here, full of hunger for his musical future, bursting with creativity. He talks about a recent trip to Nashville, the nature of success vs showing up and doing the work, co-writing with his life's love Connie Hynes, his years with the Wonderful Grand Band, and he plays half a dozen songs live in studio that were at that time unreleased or unrecorded. 
I lifted it from one of my old tapes and did my best to digitize it. Ron would be mortified by the sound quality, but there's also something endearing about it, I think. Turn it up, enjoy!
