Melodic as F*ck Techno

< Binaryh is back to Prisma Techno with 'Icarus' EP.
< The release marks the seven years of Prisma Techno.

Singularity and consistency are two words that define Binaryh's trajectory well. The Brazilian duo formed by Camila and Rene has been hitting hits with each new release and has already become one of the most beloved couples on the world techno scene.

The prosperous relationship built between Binaryh and Prisma started in 2018, with the remix of 'Pulsar' by Paulo Foltz. In 2019 the duo released their first authorial EP on the label, 'Hydra', a hurricane on both streaming platforms and dance floors, being played at major festivals around the world by artists like Tale of Us, D-Nox, Eli Iwasa, Renato Ratier and many others. In 2020 two more great original hits with ‘Palladium’ EP also received support from prominent artists such as Fur Coat and Blancah. These releases constitute a solid base that is the result of the union of the serious and solid work of both parties.

We are now in 2021, and Binaryh is back to Prisma Techno for another great chapter in this story with ‘Icarus’ EP, which is the 36th release of the label and marks Prisma’s seven years of existence.

The title track 'Icarus' brilliantly combines two antagonistic forces, acid and melodic, symbolizing the duo essence, a perfect contrast between harmony and chaos. For those who know the history of Icarus, it will be easy to associate the acid tones with the moment when his wings are burning by the heat of the sun, and the melody corresponding to the dazzle of being flying. 'Icarus' demonstrates all the duo genius, presenting characteristics never seen in their previous productions. It's a powerful weapon, which fits perfectly in the most energetic moment of the dance floor!

The second track of the EP, 'Procyon', has the same name as the brightest star in the Canis Minoris constellation, being, in fact, a binary star system formed by the spectral white Procyon A and its tenuous white dwarf companion Procyon B, orbiting each other.  Here Binaryh intersperses two melodic lines in an analogous way the stars cosmic dance, an epic and intergalactic feeling emphasized by orchestral strings, a characteristic very present in their productions. The break's return is euphoric and relieving, with timbres so hot that they can warm even the coldest of hearts. It is impossible not to fall in love with this couple!

In this release, we still have two remixes from label artists. Vicius was challenged to reinterpret the title track, ‘Icarus’, and presented us with a much more mysterious and esoteric version, succeeding in strongly printing his personality without losing the clear memory of the original story. Chappier once again surprised us with a hat-taking remix, his version of 'Procyon' presents the original story in a unique aesthetic, with influences from new wave, indie dance,  synthetic synths characteristic of the 80's video games, being conducted by well-marked grooves and unpredictable moments. This is something new, impactful and borderless!

While this is an unofficial remix and not a proper release, it's one of my favorite tracks to date. Billie's voice is just incredible; like hot butter, it melts right through the heavy electronic landscape I created around it.

To start 2021 with a bang we are proud to introduce ICONYC One. The 3rd and final chapter in the ICONYC label trilogy. ICONYC One will serve straight up techno made by some of the biggest names the scene has to offer, with the objective of blending deep, granular sound design with the 4-bar rhythmic intensity and patterning that makes house and techno so club-effective.

To start this new exciting chapter, we welcome Soolver with their outstanding 3 track 'Mother EP'. Soolver who hail from Germany have seen their releases grace well-known entities like Umek's 1605, Frankyeffe's RIOT and Metodi Hristov's Set About to name a few.

We kick things off with 'Mother' a peak time melodic techno dance floor monster which features a blend of deep bass tones, driving drum programming, cleverly chopped samples and intricately laced chord progressions, building to a massive breakdown before rebuilding to an unrelenting crescendo of energetic drum beats, chord stabs and an ever-warped bassline. Mother is a club monster that growls from the minute you push the play button.

Next up is 'Verve'; a straight up techno affair that delves into deeper territory, which sees driving drums fused with chord hits underpinned by Soolver's trademark bass patterns, before all manner of varied melodies weave in and out of the stereo field to maximum effect. Fantastic stuff!

To close out the release, Soolver drop 'Jahwe' a stripped back melodic track utilizing a hypnotizing chord as the basis of the track underpinned by driving drums that gradually ease their way to the breakdown before unleashing into a rising melodic hook intertwined with the infectious groove that fades in and out for maximum effect.

Soolver's 'Mother EP' delivers influenced melodic techno beats to start the year in style and that will make everyone smile. Another essential release from ICONYC aimed straight at the soul, be ready to dance to it!

Joelectrick is a New York based producer and DJ, making electronic music along the lines of techno, acid house, and other genres when it feels right.  He started off as a filmmaker and became serious about making music while living in Hong Kong and connecting with fellow filmmakers that also produced electronic music.  

Taking inspiration from the pioneers of Detroit Techno and Chicago House, as well as European artists such as Kavinsky, Orbital, B12, and 808 State, Joe produces individual tracks, remixes, as well as full live hardware sets.  Although he’s been terrible slow at actually releases this music, he says he’s going to be better about that this year.
