Cold Little Heart (Tom Misch Remix)

"Impact" is an uptempo Broadway showtune style piece inspired by Stephen Sondheim's "The Gun Song" from his and John Weidman's 1990 musical "Assassins." The piece is derived from my reflections on the impact a gun can have (as presented in Sondheim's song) and also from the classic saying "the pen is mightier than the sword." The song shows that seemingly small things - namely a pen, a computer keyboard, and a human voice - can have more impact that a sword, a poison, or a gun (respectively). It's a playful song with an important message.
I wrote the song over the course of a couple days and recorded the piano track and all three vocal tracks (without hearing the others!!) with the help of my friend Matt Sweda (bless). Though in the recording, a couple of the vocal lines don't line up exactly as I wrote them (due to our lack of time and technology), Matt helped make it work (again, bless)! Enjoy! :)

Always On My Mind

Even When It Hurts
I wrote this choral arrangement based off Psalm 15 for a Psalm-writing competition. In reading the Psalm, the line “the one who keeps their oath even when it hurts” stuck out to me. I reflected upon how rare it is to find people who keep their promises and remain faithful to each other even when it hurts, as human relationships inevitably do. I thought the self-sacrifice and loyalty in this text was beautiful and so tried to emphasize the beauty and pain in the music, without being too musically complicated so that a church choir could find it accessible.

WHO IS JOELLE?
Have you ever traveled through time to see the future? Settled earth as an Alien life form? Stood on the surface of the moon? Joelle Doriani has- at least, in her songs.  Joelle is a jazz-influenced Electro Pop artist whose songs swing in subject matter from nervous lovers who just don’t have the courage to break the ice to alien life forms destroying the moon. Her composition skills and and love for all that is unique, quirky, and original give birth to musical concepts that are both interesting and accessible.

Currently, Joelle is a recording artist in Virginia Beach. Look out for other tracks and an album to be released in the near future! 


Just as the sound of Joelle’s music mixes the best of genre staples and her own originality, her lyricism mixes narrative that takes the listener to incredible places with real emotion that any person can relate to. All of us want to empathize and to be empathized with; feel what it’s like to be in someone else’s shoes. What Joelle seeks to do with her music is just that- to move the listener to feel and to empathize, and have some fun at the same time!
