Hold on to your caskets and get ready to raise your talons in triumph and terror as @DJHellOfficial brings us on a dizzying two hour and 40-minute techno peregrination in this brand new Foxcast podcast episode. Just ahead of his Cityfox Halloween 2019 appearance, DJ Hell presents a mix that seemingly parallels the Electroclash pioneer’s career characteristics: consistent and enduring, protean and piquant, meditative and visionary.

We celebrate this master of the techno vanguard for four decades of pioneering and blending musical genres, establishing label International Deejay Gigolos, co-collaborating with other critically acclaimed industry label giants and artists, serving as creative mentor and guide to both established fashion and music industry brands, and more influential firsts than many can and have achieved in their lifetime. His humble beginnings as an experimental, versatile club DJ in 1978 propelled this electronic music industry giant into becoming a recognized A&R lead, one of the first techno DJs to produce his own records, a resident at Munich’s first-ever techno club, and a fashion elite advisor and icon.

Now, with more than 300 singles and albums released through the IDG label, and more than five studio albums featuring originally produced material, there’s almost no sound DJ Hell hasn’t explored and exposed his audience to and this mix is no different.

On October 26, we marveled at this man who mastered techno, introduced the world to the first trance compilation, founded a popular subgenre of techno; a man who deserved being awarded the title ‘Man of the Year’ after producing a double album that replicated New York nightlife’s seductive and elusive day-to-night sound and culture.

Boshke Beats is on, and we’re talking with Arne from the Extrawelt / Midimiliz duo, followed by a set made especially for the occasion.

Living and breathing electronic music for what has now been twenty years, Arne Schaffhausen and Wayan Raabe have carved out a piece of its history and showed us that in the vast spectrum of dance music, where the normal world ends, Extrawelt begins. Starting out as DJ’s, they found their pathway to production in the studio of fellow Hamburg natives, X-Dream. The inspiration they took away from these initial sessions soon pollinated into projects such as ‘Midimiliz', and ‘Spirallianz’; both of which gained remarkable success in the scene. However, it was in 2005 that they started a new project by the name of Extrawelt — marking a new musical trajectory. The very first production under this new moniker, `Soopertrack´ found itself in the hands of James Holden, who then released it on his revered Border Community label. This breakthrough single would pave the way for an exceptional career that includes a plethora of records, remixes and countless live shows at the most interesting clubs and festivals around the
globe.
With their debut album ’Schöne Neue Extrawelt’ garnering attention on both the dance floor and in the media, it was a telling sign of things to come when voted “Best Album 2008” by Groove Magazine and both “Best Album” and “Best Live Act” for the same year in Raveline. As 2011 rolled around, so too did their second album ‘In Aufruhr’ which was also released on Sven Väth’s label Cocoon Recordings and was as equally acclaimed as the first. Adding to the list of notable publications is Faze Magazine, whose readers’
poll awarded them “Best Live Act in 2014” — not surprising considering their live act has been defining them for over a decade and leaving permanent impressions on audiences everywhere. For the duo, each and every show is a chance to manipulate their sound in a flow of measured spontaneity — all while using gear that most people would keep tucked away in their studio. The result is a live-act focussed on purism and great care in presenting the deepest core of their sound — in essence; exactly what sums up their musical galaxy.
2017 marked a year of renewal in the Extrawelt realm. Besides their new studio and freshly curated live set up, their third album ‘Fear of an Extra Planet’ edged itself into the world and found new space to occupy with its focussed and to-the-point ten track oeuvre. And in late 2018 these studio addicts and sound benders will deliver their fourth album, fittingly titled ‘Unknown’ — a journey which deviates into unfamiliar territory. A
brave electronic composition, it hits a sweet-spot with their very own take on electro, while still dazzling us with depth and unique harmonics we have come to know of the pair. By default, this has summoned the arrival of what the pair enjoys doing most; playing live on tours throughout the world with music which continues to remind people of the purity of techno music’s past while shedding light on the sound of the future.

*DJ and producer from Stockholm, Sweden.
Joel Mull's career spans over three decades. With a background studying classical music, singing in choirs and playing in bands, Joel found electronic music at a young age as a source of freedom. His first experience came from DJ’ing in the chill-out areas of rave parties in his native Stockholm during the early 90’s.
With his roots from Germany, Hamburg, he moved to the city in 1994, and worked as a resident DJ for 3 years at one of the biggest techno clubs in Germany, Unit Club. This was an important period for him and as a DJ; It taught him how to control the energy of the night on the dance floor, from warm up sets to 10h marathon sets.

With releases on music labels worldwide along with Cari Lekebusch, Robert Leiner, Adam Beyer and Jesper Dahlbäck he counts to the first wave of Swedish techno producer who became known around the world as the "Swedish techno sound".
He has produced over 100 releases and under various names such as Icarus, Gotzkowsky and most recent under his alias Damm.
He often refers to himself and his craft as a sound architect, and if you’ve ever experienced his club sets, you’ll understand why.
Under his ambient and electronica alias Damm, Joel revives one of his earliest aliases and expands upon this discipline even further.
