Have you ever felt the weight
of your own questions—
why you are here,
what holds the world together,
how to rise when the earth feels so heavy?

Psalm 8 holds a mirror,
a reflection of hope wrapped in God’s majesty.
A psalmist marvels,
“O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name
in all the earth,”
as the heavens hum their agreement,
stars set in place by divine fingers.

Even the weakest among us—
babies who cry, voices soft as breath—
are raised to still the enemy.
And then there is man,
small beneath the galaxies,
yet crowned with glory,
given dominion over the wild,
the waves, the birds that sing beyond us.

And in the middle of this melody,
we glimpse something deeper.
The New Testament pulls back the curtain—
this song is not only about us
but about the Son.
Jesus, lowered for a time,
exalted through death,
crowned with glory,
his victory final.

He has tasted death,
so we may taste life.
He has risen,
so we too can rise,
no matter how deep the hole we find ourselves in.
This is the heart of it:
God, above us, beyond us,
giving meaning to all.

U2’s Bono sings,
“I’ve lost all self-control,
been living like a mole.
Now going down, excavation…”
But then, “You make me feel like I can fly.”

Yet the psalmist looks higher still—
not to a partner or a friend,
but to the one who has always been there,
setting stars in their places,
calling us to rise.

Why does this matter?
Because God’s care for us
reveals a purpose behind creation’s chaos.
And beyond that, God’s glory surpasses
even our understanding of rising.
He stands above,
and in his elevation,
we find our meaning.

So we sing with the psalmist,
“O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name!”
A hymn that lifts us from the earth,
reminding us who holds it all together.
