[Tommy] This one was Joe's. Most people don't know, but he probably wrote about half the songs we had.  I Don’t Know was the first original song of ours to REALLY connect with audiences. There were others that were liked, but really, this was THE song in the early days. It would be requested, no different than something on the radio. It always worked live, with all the kids dancing, boppin', and singing along. Good times, fun song. I helped with the bridge; nice change, going to the minor. A little silly, lyrically, but hey - he was 16 years old, I was 14!

[Joe] This was my first song ever. I had a cheap throw-away guitar that to this day, I can't recall where it came from… LOL. I came up with a VERY simplistic guitar-riff (which opens the song) and thought it had promise if worked on. I would come up with riffs and “concepts”, and Tommy would put the finishing touches to them. With I Don’t Know, I went to Tommy’s house and showed him the opening riff and said, ”Here you go, now finish it”, LOL.  By next rehearsal, I Don’t Know was done and ready for performance.
