There is something very casual, but dead-on accurate, about this little rhythm-piece.  Good stuff.

I discovered a strange cat-like purring sound coming from the corner of the bedroom. The next day I discovered loads of wasps entering the house through a hole in the wall outside, they have built a nest in the cavity between the ceiling and the floorboards, possibly 2 - 3 square feet in size judging by the sound coming up through the carpet in the bedroom. This is the strange sound they make, particularly during the night. 

Recorded with 2 x Sennheiser MKH 8020 omni mikes into a Sound Devices 702 recorder. The mikes were placed on the floor and covered with a pillow and some weights, in order to get a better physical contact with the floor and reduce ambient noise, although this was recorded at night when there is very little going on outside, so what you can hear in this recording is the wasps.

The piece "Joinery" is one that I composed for myself in a distant time when I had come so far apart that I made it my mission to reassemble myself molecule by molecule. It is the closest thing I have to a standard in that I tend to approach it like a smug jazz dude who assumes maybe too many things but had fun traversing its form. It's different every time and always gets away from itself. The "Welcome Home" is a celebration of the recent repair of this favorite instrument of mine after a calamity.
