We began this episode with a check-in where Joe expressed his disappointment in the lack of change he sees as he has resumed traveling. Kat agreed and predicted capitalism’s demise.

Joe and Kat announced a break in recording episodes of Joe and Kat Chats for the next few weeks. However, we will return in mid-August ready to educate, entertain, and inspire while continuing to focus on justice issues that aim to internationalize the struggle.

Joe also discussed representation at festivals and the responsibility of being a Black artist in a predominately White space. 

In the latter half of the episode, we defined nationalism, patriotism, colonialism, imperialism, and genocide. Kat outlined the history of Canada Day and Joe related it to the White supremacist and patriarchal founding of our nations. Kat also outlined some of the reasons behind the “Cancel Canada Day” protests and spoke about the ongoing genocide of indigenous peoples in Canada. Joe discussed the words on his “Fill in The Blanks” shirt from his clothing line (www.joenicedj.net / IG: @shopjoenicedj) and how the slavery in the land now known as the United States (August 20, 1619) is older than the founding of the United States (July 4, 1776). Joe agreed with Kat’s desire to not celebrate Canada Day and called on all Americans to not celebrate Independence Day. Joe also renewed the call to boycott, divest, and sanction Canada and the United States for the countless and continued human rights violations in both countries.

In this episode, Kat and I provided the specific definitions for language, linguistics, communication (and the four types of communication), a word, sound, and a sentence. Linguistic concepts such as syntax and semantics were also highlighted. 

I also discussed the linguistic importance of this sentence:
“Colorless green ideas sleep furiously.”

The hosts compared and contrasted the differences between interpreting and interpretation and I explained the three ways to interpret (interlingually, interculturally, and intersemiotically). We also discussed the differences between interpreting and translation and mentioned the different modes of interpreting. The hosts closed out the linguistics portion of the episode with a discussion about polysemics, lexical ambiguity, syntactic ambiguity, and context.

The last segment of the chat involved “13 Statements That Could Save A Life”. 
Those statements are: 
1. I believe in you. 2. I am proud of you. 3. I am thinking of you. 4. I love you. 5. I knew you could do it. 6. I hear you. 7. I am listening.

President Biden and his fifty-year history of legislative activity, President Trump and the establishment media’s distaste for him, and a history of policing in the United States. Most importantly, we talked about the forthcoming March For Medicare For All marches happening on July 24, 2021. Last, we discussed future plans for the movement.

We must continue to internationalize the struggle.

Joe Nice - Borealis Festival 2019 - LIVE MIX

Born in Southampton, United Kingdom, growing up in Baltimore, MD, USA but now based in North Carolina, Joe Nice is universally recognized as the ambassador of the dubstep sound in North America and has been highly instrumental in the growth and success of dubstep and bass music for the past eighteen years. Essentially, he played dubstep before the genre had a name. He is North America's first and most respected dubstep DJ and is globally known as one of the most genuine and talented artists in the dubstep community. 
	Joe started playing dubstep in June 2001 with a collective of Baltimore DJ's, the 2 Charming Crew. Nice earned a residency at Sonar Baltimore and headlined local, regional and national shows shortly afterward. In September 2003, Joe Nice co-created a monthly internet radio show on GourmetBeats.com. His show was the first to feature dubstep in North America. In June 2005, while gigging and doing internet radio, Nice co-founded and was a resident DJ at the first dubstep night in North America, DubwarNYC.
He is the first American-based DJ to play on London pirate radio, Rinse FM, the first American-based DJ to play the legendary DMZ bi-monthly bash, and the first American-based DJ to play FWD>> @ Plastic People. In 2007, he was proudly selected as one of URB magazine's NEXT 100. In July 2011, Nice became a resident DJ at a new dubstep night in New York City, Reconstrvct. In May 2012, Joe transitioned his monthly radio show from Gourmetbeats.com to the award-winning SubFM, where his GourmetBeats radio show is heard on the second Tuesday of each month, 7 pm - 9 pm EST. On the 2015 edition of the dubstepforum.com awards, Joe received the most votes in the “Best DJ” and “Best Radio Show” categories. Also in 2015, Joe created his record label, GourmetBeats, which releases new music on vinyl and digital formats and features leading and upcoming worldwide dubstep production talent. In September 2019, GourmetBeats Radio celebrated 16 years of internet radio broadcasts. In November 2019, GourmetBeats released its 25th record with several more releases planned for 2021 and beyond. 
Since 2001, Joe Nice has performed in over 150 cities in 50 countries, across 6 continents. His worldwide fan base continues to grow with his enthusiastic live performance, stage presence, upfront selection, and skillful mixing.
