This train!

An African-American folk song first published in 1928. The words of the song provide a map for those wishing to escape a life of slavery in the south, namely Alabama, to find freedom in the north. The drinking Gourd is code for the big dipper and the star, the Northstar, located in its handle which those wishing to escape are instructed to follow!

At 55 years old, I am a grandfather and am rediscovering the magic of a newborn baby. When we see this innocence and fragility, we retrieve in each of us that simple but wonderful thing that is humanity.

I’ve written a few songs over the years and now that I’m retired and have all the time in the world, I’m dusting them off and recording them… For posterity if nothing else. I’m also writing some new ones. It’s a lot of fun! 

Now, a little about me… I’m a recovering alcoholic with over 36 years of continuous sobriety. I’m also a former pastor, retired now after 25 years. Five years ago, I lost the love of my life to ovarian cancer, so that also makes me a widower. And oh yes… i’ve been blind for over 36 years! in spite of all that, exciting adventures, new experiences and love continue to fill my life with joy!
