Why did we pick ZaZa's mix?
We were looking for someone with a unique, standout sound. Different. Creative. Our theme "outside the box" was designed to try to find a DJ that ran with that concept in an imaginative, special way. ZaZa took this concept and created something exceptional, whilst staying true to her own sound. The amount of planning and preparation ZaZa dedicated to this mix was obvious. She even wrote a description in the bio explaining the exact choices she made and why. She spoke very passionately about her ideas; a DJ who cares a lot about their craft and pushes themselves to be different/take risks. This was a carefully crafted, carefully thought out mix, which stood out from the others. 

From a technical perspective, her blends were clean and her volume control was spot on. Her track selection was not only interesting, but considering she chose to do a theme idea of an alien b2b with a human (outside of the box - for sure), she chose some really interesting sounds. She used samples and SFX that created atmosphere. She blended interesting, niche tracks/sounds with DnB. Her mix was very creative and she deserves this winning spot.

But the competition was fierce. We were grateful for every single entrant and the next stage is to select our favourites for our August guest mixes. Our team had many, many discussions. Our voting was designed as fairly as possible. Our whole team listened to every single mix, then voted for our favourites in a multiple-choice selection poll. The top 5 from that poll were then selected as finalists for consideration. We voted again anonymously, and thus, ZaZa was selected the team's winner.

What does ZaZa have to say about her mix?
"HUMAN VS ALIEN: It took me a while to come up with a theme for this that felt ‘outside of the box’ and I decided I liked the concept of a human and an alien doing a B2B, sharing their vibes until they both realise they love Drum and Bass and mixing together -kinda feels like my two sides of ‘human music’ and ‘alien music’ merging in a weird experimental splurge 👽This was a fun idea to play with that I wanna delve into more someday for sure! For now, enjoy the CHAOS (it’s chaotic hahahaha)"

Dear Mix Diary,
Nearly four weeks since I wrote a mix diary entry! Croakheads is doing a takeover for the Proelium Audio/Basscamp London Sunset Party to support Blooom/VOE/Ruth Royall. So I’m using this as an opportunity to help last-minute promote their event!
Oh god, last month’s recap, let’s go…
* Launched Croakheads North! (We kept that one quiet, hey?)
* Played MAIN room at Volks, Brighton - bucket list moment!
* Supported Jam Thieves at the Shape Up Sounds/Infected Events night in Torquay.
* Met some really cool people in Torquay that have become friends.
* More Code South Radio adventures (and sausage rolls).
* Croakheads is playing for the Sunset Party takeover to support Blooom/VOE/Ruth Royall.
* Announced Planet Wax Croakheads Invites night on 14th August.
* About to announce a collective takeover night on 19th September with a headliner.
* Organised my 30th joint birthday event in London with friends. Poster is amazing.
* Met up with Charis who gave me some basic production lessons/took headshots.
* Formed an amazing Ambassadors team that are super dedicated.
* Those Ambassadors and admin launched our streaming service! Thank you!
* Reorganised and restructured the entire team of Croakheads… Busy!
* Some more edits mixes with great DJs.
* Connected with crazy amounts of collectives. I’ve lost count.
* Went to a great Overview event at Volks and met new people/saw lovely friends.
* Put up our event posters all over Stokes Croft/Bristol for our event soon.
* Met Mark from Basement 45 and their venue team. Nice people.
* Completed the DJ competition and selected a winner.
* Celebrated Bacchus’ birthday in Ware. Beautiful day. Beautiful people.
* As always, spent loads of time with friends and great people.
