Song For No One

My new song, ‘Lay Me, Lie Me Low’. A very soft, gentle folk song. I don’t usually write love songs so this is a bit different but sometimes, you’re just in the mood haha. I think this is one of my best efforts, it is a very simple tune without a bridge but it is supposed to emulate traditional folk songs in its structure. It is also quite minimalist in its instrumentation. I only added a bass line and a simple drum beat to my fingerstyle guitar and vocal melodies. I definitely think this is a great song for taking a walk in nature and I hope you enjoy!!

A soft sad song I wrote about love loss with fingerstyle guitar. I used a drum sample and all instruments (apart from my guitar)were made by my Casio keyboard. I really appreciate your attention, I made all my music myself so thank you!!

Superhero

My new track, ‘Indigo Sea’. It’s a slow, melancholy song with a soft fingerstyle guitar. I was aiming for something that sounded a bit nostalgic and dreamy. I made a music video for this song featuring old vintage clips too which is on YouTube. It is surprising how much you can do with only 2 instruments and a sampled drum beat. This song was recorded in one day with my mic, my guitar and my 1980s keyboard. Everything but my voice, the guitar and the rhythm was recorded on my keyboard. I learnt this guitar fingerpicking style from covering Bob Dylan’s song ‘Boots of Spanish Leather’. I think they fit the chords well. Also, the continuation of the drumbeat was inspired by Lana Del Rey’s song ‘Chemtrails Over the Country Club’. I love it when I can find direct sonic inspirations from other tracks, even if it is a small detail. The lyrics to this song are pretty dark but I think that fits the sound of the track. Themes of sadness and the sea are pretty typical of my music, I like to think this track would be perfect for walking on the beach alone in a storm haha.

Indigo Sea

My new song ‘Jubilation’. A gothic indie folk song that starts soft and changes quite a lot at about 2 mins 20 seconds in. It sounds like it has finished but it hasn’t so please keep listening! I wanted to create a completely different mood in the last third of the song; it is a lot heavier and darker and I like that dramatic effect. I always like those songs that changed completely halfway through and I always wanted to try it but no song other song that I had written suited it. I also made a music video for this song on YouTube, I think the dark visuals emphasise this change even more. As always, all the composing and recording (apart from the drum loop) was done by me in a day just using my mic, guitar and keyboard. I would love to know what you think.
