“Bad News" was written in the belly of 2020 when it seemed my perceptions of reality were at the mercy of modern media. Unable to connect with the external world, I was forced to look inward and discover that my inner dialogue and self-image were the roots of my disillusionment. I wrote "Bad News" in an attempt to express this deep yearning for solace with myself, along with a true human connection beyond the walls of quarantine.

Joey’s newest single “Givin In” is his most personal release to date, characterized by its crispy vocals, simmering guitars and dusty “lo-fi” percussion. 

The song features close friend and co-writer Cori Rios, another Phoenix native who’s southwest edge helps to give the record its desert road trip vibe. Working with producer Anthony Brant at Highland Recording, Joey Gutos has captured a sound for summer that is sure to cure any hangover – and possibly incite another.

"Where She At" tells the story of a woman who feigns infatuation with Joey. Using the chill sounds of nostalgic guitar riffs and trashy drum beats mixed with Joey's smooth vocals, you can hear the carefree nature of the woman as the story unfolds.

"Where She At" tells the story of a woman who is proud of who she is with all her triumphs and faults. I collaborated with producer Austin Jones and rapper Amani Jae to create this early 2000's "in the club" style remix great for fans of Jack Harlow, Cali Swag District and early Nelly.

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! Your alarm clock sends you flying towards your bedroom ceiling in complete panic as you try to grasp what is going on. "Is the house on fire? Did I sleep through my final?? IS THE WORLD ENDING???" All reasonable questions when you're violently cut from the womb of such a pleasant sleep. Suddenly and without thought, your hand reaches to the bedside table, grabs a cold, rectangular device emitting the menacing sound and presses the icy sterile screen where a bright orange button haults all the chaos. You're safe now and with device in hand, you swipe up with your opposable thumb to enter a world of its making. With a comforting glow and a familiar touch, its very presence in your hands seems to solace you, "Good morning Player 1, how would you like to escape today?"

Are You In Control?

"Everything (That I Need)" was written by the silver leaf oak trees, a crisp November wind and a moment of inspiration as I found myself immersed in Tonto National Forrest. Sounds from all across my home state of Arizona were recorded directly into this track so that I could feel at home every time I heard it. This song is about reconnecting with anything that makes me feel whole - whether that's a person, place or a frame of mind. 

I hope it helps you to reconnect with a similar feeling.
