This is one of the first recordings of a 2-year-old killer whale (orca) calf named Springer (A73).  The recording was made on January 19, 2002 in an attempt to determine the identity of a lone orca calf discovered in the busy Puget Sound ferry lane between Seattle and Vashon Island, WA.  The whale's identity was subsequently discovered, and with the efforts of many people she was returned to her family in Canada. 
Because of the constant ferry traffic, the noise from ferries can also be heard in this recording.
