The Jazz Online Group, or JOG for short, is a five-piece ensemble, formed in the early days of the COVID pandemic as a way of playing together remotely.  The players are mainly retired professional musicians. “Retired musician” is an oxymoron of course.  To date (mid 2025), they have recorded eighty five original pieces.  The works are composed by Derek Overy (D), who is the guitarist, synth programmer and sound engineer. The process is that D writes each piece and produces scored parts, with sections for improvisation, along with a back-track at the correct tempo.  Each player refers to the backtrack when recording their separate part.  Each track is then sent to D who does the mix and the cover artwork. Talented, yes.  

The genre of music might be called #gentlejazz, with clever polyrhythms, catchy melodies and warm improvisions.  The Soundcloud site carries a 45-60 minute playlist of the most recent recordings, which you are invited to follow.
