Let's take six musicians and make something in 6/8ths - "Take Six" it is!

I'm very proud to present to you an original, spring-welcoming, smooth-flowing jazz piece, with some of the finest (jazz) musicians here on SC. 

My immense gratitude goes to these guys jumping aboard without hesitation on basis of a sketchy idea I had - to forge a six man collaboration, upping the stakes of complexity. Coming out at the other end with another, great learning experience to behold and a track I will cherish.

This was recorded live at JZ club, Shanghai, China, June 14, 2012. It features Theo Croker on trumpet, Leonardo Susi on percussion, Nick McBride on drums, Peter Scherr on bass, Steinar Nickelson on keys and myself on saxophone and as composer of the song. 74 MILES AWAY is a collaboration between producer duo MonkeyRobot, jazz pianist/composer Pierre Anckaert and flutist Stefan Bracaval. They’ll take you on a trip from the era of Bob James, Weather Report and Herbie Hancock, 80’s boogie to the future beat sound of today. Heavy analogue synth action and deep Moog basslines are omnipresent, keeping the lush Fender Rhodes sound in balance.

74 MILES AWAY’s first eponymous album was released on Melting Pot Music (2011) and featured collaborations with AHU, Miles Bonny & Carina Andersson (4 Hero). A first single from this album Same Dream Again was released on the infamous London-based label Brownswood.

Early 2013 this Belgian combo hit the studio again which resulted in this 8-track, fully instrumental album, powered by our longtime partners at Laid Back.
Eager to play and please, the band puts emphasis on their energetic live shows. And they are a real treat at the bar too, by the way.
