Upon.You Podcast #37 - T Raum & Johan Mila

Coming back to the Upon.You Records camp with his second EP is T Raum, the Vienna-based producer who brought us the „Daywalker EP" in May of 2k18. Now, teaming up with fellow artist Johan Mila for „The Strange" the Austrian producer is back with more dancefloor-focused goodness, bringing us our first release of the still new, fresh and young year 2019.

Opening with „Hot Rod" the two artists immediately prove that they are a studio force to be reckoned with, weighing in pumping, crafty next level TechHouse with a storming, quite muscular peaktime touch, huge breakdowns and a powerful, ever spiralling synth motif made to take punters to a trance-inducing rave heaven within seconds.

The title track „The Strange *Vocal Mix" brings on another dancefloor weapon created by T Raum & Johan Mila, focusing on distinct, perfectly shaped TechHouse drums, warm, floating DubTechno-influenced pads, clever percussion arrangements and beautiful, out of this world vocals coming down to the dancefloor from electronic music heavens.

On the next tip we see T Raum & Johan Mila presenting their track „Melodrama", a stripped down, yet upliftng affair exploring the borderline between TechHouse and (Neo)Trance for rolling late night / early morning dancefloor workouts, weighing in widescreen panorama breakdowns and touching atmospheres for humungous crowds and beauteous sunrise experiences.

Finally „The Strange *Dub Mix" rolls out another angle on the title track, putting an emphasis on its distinct DubTechno chords and beautiful melody whilst stripping the original cut off the vocals to allow variation for those DJ's who like to go deeper throughout their sets.

Four single releases within a four years period. If this is what makes an artist a pillar of a labels roster Vienna-based artist T Raum has officially reached this status with „Evil" which is his latest EP on Upon.You Records and our first transmission for the year 2k21.

Opening with „Get Ready" T Raum is sending a clear signal to anyone preparing for things to come on future dancefloors which are, at least according to this furious entree, about to be jam-packed with bodies moving along to brooding, relentless and well eerie Techno grooves revolving around a busy midrange synth, hefty snare attacks and warped vocal transmissions from the outerworld.

Getting loads of „Recognition" is what the second tune on this four tracker deserves due to its cold and tripping, sci-fi and slightly psychedelic TechHouse vibe paired with emulations of icy winds being blown over from exoterrestrial plains, ever morphing modulation sequences and, once again, disembodied vocal bits drilling deep down into the human subconscious.

Furthermore „Evil" lurks within the title track which caters a deep, stripped down and masterly crafted take on spaced out Acid minimalism structurally reminiscent of a vibe brought to us by many mid- and early 90s classics before an intense, swirling, psyched out and siren'esque synth layer starts to drift, wobble and morph through the stereo field for additional braincell stimulation.

And finally there is „Breath Control" - a reference to these strange times we're living in titlewise, catering a musical menu comprised of a dark and claustrophic 2k21-reinterpretation of minimalistic Shuffle Techno garnished with more hypercold sci-fi vibes, spine-tingling sample abuse and ever shifting - and phase-shifting - movements of micro-motifs within the stereo field, adding additional depths to devastating klaxon'esque synth signals and what seems to be an out of the loop metronome playing an essential role in this sonic trip through space and time.

T Raum - Get Ready (PREMIERE)

Producer and DJ Johan Johanson was born in 1985 in Germany. He spent his childhood near Baden-Baden in southern Germany and after being finished with school moved to Freiburg and lived there for five years. Hes been living and working in Vienna since autumn 2010. Before discovering his passion for House, Techno and Minimal he was active in other musical genres.
Since 2009 hes been devoting himself more and more to his solo projects and found his style of sound strongly influenced by Techno. Since then he created some EPs and a lot of Edits of different artists. In spring 2010 he founded the DJ team T-Raum together with 3st, another DJ from Baden-Baden. In July 2012 they had their first release on Hard Drive Records which is called T-Raum - Re-actio EP. Being cofounder of BÄM! Revolution Rec. (www.baem-revolution.com) Johan Johanson and T-Raum found their music a home at their own label.
