It's been silent for a while from me and thats because I'm busy making music. Sorry about that people! But here is a taste from the soundtrack from the movie Tales Of Dracula (Red Carpet Premiere 24 April 2015)  where i am the composer. The rest of the soundtrack will be released sometime this spring! In honor of those who fought for our freedom during world war ll.

Today, 70 years ago, the German Armed Forces surrendered and pulled out of Norway. The day before, 7th of may is referred to as VE-DAY (Victory in Europe) by the British and American allied forces. The amount of terror, death and horror caused by the Nazi ideologic driven warfare is staggering and so terrible that it is despite how well documented, hard to imagine.


May we never forget!


I wrote and recorded this piece in honor of the ones that laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

From Earth to the Universe
The night sky, both beautiful and mysterious, has been the subject of campfire stories, ancient myths and awe for as long as there have been people. A desire to comprehend the Universe may well be humanity’s oldest shared intellectual experience. Yet only recently have we truly begun to grasp our place in the vast cosmos. To learn about this journey of celestial discovery, from the theories of the ancient Greek astronomers to today’s grandest telescopes, we invite you to experience From Earth to the Universe.
Directed by the young Greek filmmaker Theofanis N. Matsopoulos, and featuring a sweeping soundtrack from Norwegian composer Johan B. Monell, viewers can revel in the splendour of the various worlds in the Solar System and the ferocity of the scorching Sun. From Earth to the Universe then leaves our home to take the audience out to the colourful birthplaces and burial grounds of stars, and still further out, beyond the Milky Way, to the unimaginable immensity of a myriad galaxies. Along the way, the audience will learn about the history of astronomy, the invention of the telescope, and today’s giant telescopes that allow us continue to probe ever deeper into the Universe.
Director Theofanis N. Matsopoulos described the film as “a colourful and inspiring journey… the visuals are stunning and really speak for themselves in showing just how far humanity’s ambition has taken us in terms of observing and understanding the Universe”.

Here's a loooong one from my upcoming album . "No Light At The End Of The World". "Navigation Part 1 , 2 & 3 " was a joy to record.  I really went deep on what sounds i could achieve with my guitar and bass guitar. Inspired by a former band i used to play lead guitar in called Departures, I pulled out some old tricks and had to re-think my old ones to make it sounds fresh in 2016. Actually a lot of the "synth" like sounds on this song is guitar and bass. Enjoy! Thanks again to Korey Rowe for the amazing cover photo!

"No Measure Of Sadness" from my concept album "No Light At The End Of The World" due to be released in June. It's an album where i play a lot with genres, instruments and soundscapes. When i recorded it, I felt as though i was in a pink floydish bubble, and i loved it!

Burning Hope

In This Track I kept into the more cinematic action/Thriller genre. It's filled with details and lots and lots and lots of tracks. It was nearly impossible to mix. But i got there finally. I ended the piece with a soothing and more emotional sequence with lush sordinostrings and echoes from the universe. Hope you like it! Enjoy!

This is a track that i wrote for a film that's never gonna see the light of day because business is what it is sometimes. I love this track thought and I'm sure i'll be able to use it on some of my other future films. Enjoy!

A New Dawn

Johan is a Norwegian composer for film and TV. He has produced scores for Hollywood productions, European Productions, Documentaries, Horrormovies, commercials and many other things.  He also makes music for NASA  and ESO. 

Johan started playing music at the age of seven and has been composing music since the age of ten. He has played in over a dusin bands, from pop bands to metal bands with concerts and touring nationally and internationally. He plays drums, guitar, bass, piano, synth and keyboard and have been doing so for more than 25 years and has several album and single releases from his former career as a touring musician.
 
 
 
Johan has worked freelance as a front of house sound-technician for seven years, scene-technician for ten years and has a long career as a professional arranger and song instructor for theater and plays. He has also composed, recorded and produced songs in many different genres through out the years.
 
 
Johan is educated in jazz-harmony, music-theory, music-history, sound-technique and sound-design.Living near the immense forest of the central-east Norway, he draws inspiration from that environment daily to fully express himself in all of his music. His niche is music for TV and film. 


With clients ranging from The European Space Agency, NASA and American film students and film academies, Johan is already experienced and working his way up as a composer.
