Essential Guide To Frankfurt Beat Volume 01

BOOKS, BANDS + BANGING TRANCE 

The first in an indulgent series of mixes I’ll be putting out this year, combining my love of books, bands, and banging trance, where I start the show by reading (in my very nicest reading voice) a passage from a book, and then play some songs that (loosely) relate to that book. 

Anything goes in the first half, and then i’ll see us out with a hard n’ hairy trance mix in the 2nd. 

The show is called ROSA CANINA, named after a plant that I read about in Bao Ninh’s ‘The Sorrow of War’. A novel based on the authors 11 years as a soldier in Vietnam. 

In this passage he talks about the ROSA CANINA plant they smoked to alleviate the horrors of war, and it’s psychedelic dream weaving properties.

ROSA CANINA 001

Roger Max is a music producer and DJ. Embracing the unrefined essence of techno's raw sound, the artist from the coastal region of Santa Catarina explores a range from open and energetic lines to dense and hypnotic genres, with an emphasis on groove as a characteristic that guides his performance.
In his home state, he has played in cities such as Itajaí, Navegantes, Camboriú, Joinville, and Florianópolis. Outside the state, he made his debut in São Paulo at an event organized by the Morph Collective. In 2022, the artist had his first releases: he contributed to one of the tracks in the winter VA of Createch Records and had his first EP signed by Prototype Records.
Since then, the producer continues his studio work, receiving support from names like André Salata, Maccari, among others. Looking ahead, Roger Max continues to mature his production and solidify his sound style: raw and groove-filled techno.

A History of Trance returns with the second instalment - 2011 was the last edition, journeying from 1993 to 2011. This new episode is a bit of a monster - prepare for some commitment for the next 2.5 hours!

This mix takes you on a chronological journey year on year from 1991 to 2015; a track for each year except 2000 where I honestly couldn't pick the two so just smashed them both in- so its a double whammy on the year 2000 - what the hell, it was one of the best years for Trance. 26 stompers in total for you to wrap your lobes around....

The same as last time the tracks are all my own personal preferences and aren't necessarily actual number one tracks from each year, although most of course are recognised and were hits in the scene in various forms over the years.
