'The Epic Of Everest' dir. Captain John Noel (1924), has been restored by BFI National Archive and is the official film record of Mallory and Irvine’s ill-fated 1924 Everest expedition. It will be released in cinemas on 18 October 2013, with the score released on Mute on 21 October 2013.

"Plutonian Nights" was originally released on the El Saturn Records LP 'The Nubians Of Plutonia.' Written and Arranged by Sun Ra. Recorded in Chicago, 1958-1959.

Wilson das Neves - Pick Up The Pieces:

Wilson das Neves was is a legendary Brazilian percussionist most well known for being part of Os Ipanemas. 

His cover of Average White Band’s ‘Pick Up The Pieces’ recorded with his ‘conjunto’ ensemble, takes the track into funky samba territory, laden with percussion and horns.

Originally released on the ‘O Som Quente E O Das Neves LP in 1976. Previously unreleased on 7”.

Som Tres - Tanga:

A Mr Bongo all-time Brazilian Funk favourite. Tearing drums, vocals and piano packed into just over 2 minutes. Killer. Som Tres were a trio formed by prolific pianist, arranger and producer Cesar Camargo Mariano.

Originally appeared on the ‘Um É Pouco, Dois É Bom, Este Som Três É Demais’ LP on Odeon Brazil in 1971. Previously unreleased on 7”.

Wilson Simonal - Nem Vem Que Nao Tem:

An instant and super catchy samba-MPB hit made famous through by its inclusion in Fernando Meirelles and Kátia Lund’s ‘City Of God’. This is a firm Simonal favourite here at Mr Bongo HQ.

Simonal was a hugely successful singer in the 1960’s and early 70’s; one of the most popular artists in Brazil infact.

‘Nem Vem Que Nao Tem’ was previously released on 7” by Odeon in France and Spain, and appears on his ‘Alegria, Alegria !!!’ LP on Odeon Brazil, released in 1967

Trio Mocoto - Nao Adianta:

Trio Mocoto were one of Jorge Ben Jr’s main backing bands and highly influential to his sound. They recorded with him on the seminal ‘Força Bruta’, ‘Negro É Lindo’ and ‘Tábua de Esmeralda’ LP’s.

Nao Adianta first appeared on Trio Mocoto’s self-titled 1977 Arlequim LP. It was subsequently released on 7” in Spain, Portugal and Italy (and we are assuming France too).

Solid Steel in association with Serato (1st May) We continue celebrating the relaunch of the Solid Steel website http://www.solidsteel.net  with the return of Four Tet and an exclusive mix alongside Anthony Naples for a TEXT Records special. Four Tet first appeared on Solid Steel back in 2001 and you can now hear this mix in the Featured section on the website, along with another mix from 2002 (which also featured Bonobo, DJ Food and DK as part of the Solid Steel Tour retrospective.) We also feature a 2001 mix from Koushik, who was the first artist to release an EP on Text Records.

I've Lost a Friend > Mundo Urbano mixtape (outtake)

I was kindly invited to put together a mix for the brilliant Polarlichter Radio show on Campus Crew Passau, hosted by Thomas Adamski. I chose not to curate just any old mix for this special occasion, but instead, focused on highlighting The Places Series and some of the featured artists inspirations.

Each Places Series track describes a personal journey, and every artist has an inspiration. So, I asked each artist to provide an example track that may have directly, or indirectly inspired their Places Series release.

This formula meant I couldn't approach the mix how i normally would like to, but it ended up being quite a journey, full of twists and turns, spanning the spectrum of music covered on ASIP. It was amazing listening back to the artists and their inspirations, noting the smallest of similar details or the evolution of certain sounds which have been made their own.

Each Places Series track, is immediately followed by it's inspiration as detailed below in the trackist. I couldn't fit all of the Places Series releases in, so I hope this persuades you to listen to and download the rest of the series.
