Explaining the title:

Every work of art could be a considered masterpiece. If you're creating your best work with each outing, then your most masterful self has created a piece. I liked the frame of working on it with the title Masterpiece, so I that I could believe that what I was making would be something I could be proud of. But once it was done, it was done. So it becomes yesterday's work. No matter how masterful, once finished, a piece is finished. So I'll get back to my drawing pad and see if I can create more in the future.

This progression was written in my music theory notebook from my first music theory class at Baylor. It was Dr. Bennighof's Theory III class and we were discussing secondary dominants and other ways of avoiding tonic. I wrote a progression that would avoid "I" as long as possible and never took the time to realize it in composition. After writing that progression I sat through years of classes with Doctor Claybrook learning how to perfect part writing. Then I spent five years away from music. Last Tuesday, I sat down and took the time after 14 years away from the original doodle. The piano counterpoint in the first eight measures follows all the rules; after that the strings do the same. Then I start breaking the rules a little to make sounds I like, and by :51 seconds in or so, the melody is presented and the song becomes more contemporary. The journey through minor at 1:19 is a foray into an overall darker sound that I hope to explore more in the future if I ever compose for EDM.

I don't know when I'll make the next one but this was more fun than you can imagine. I hope you like it; I hope it makes you soar like God does in the picture. If not, it's okay. :)

The moment at :37 seconds sounds like a flying bicycle to me. I couldn't decide if God or Leonardo was pedaling but it sounded like fun. Credit goes to Leslie Plum​ for the perfect realization of the idea. :)
