John Bilotta has spent most his life in the San Francisco Bay Area attending UC, Berkeley, and the San Francisco Music & Arts Institute where he studied composition, theory, and orchestration with Frederick Saunders.
 
A recipient of multiple commissions, grants, and awards, John has seen his works performed around the world by such outstanding soloists and ensembles as Rarescale, the Kiev Philharmonic, Earplay, Chamber Mix, the Washington Square Contemporary Music Society, the Talea Ensemble, the Avenue Winds, San Francisco Cabaret Opera, Blue Grass Opera, and VocalWorks.
 
In 2005, his Concerto for Wind Quartet and Orchestra was premiered by the Oakland Civic Orchestra under Martha Stoddard and was subsequently recorded by the Kiev Philharmonic under Robert Ian Winstin. More recently, his short comic opera Quantum Mechanic, with libretto by John F. McGrew, won the 2007 Opera-in-a-Month Competition subsequently receiving performances in California, Utah, Oklahoma, and Kentucky to date.
 
By the end of 2009, nearly a dozen of John's chamber, orchestral, and operatic works had been recorded and released on CD. His music appears on several recording labels including Capstone Records, Parma Recordings, New Music North, Vox Novus, ERMMedia, and Beauport Classical Music with distribution through Naxos Records, iTunes, Amazon, and CDBaby among others.
 
Since 2006, John has been Music Director of the San Francisco Chamber Wind Festival held every summer at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music; and co-directs with Brian Bice the annual Festival of Contemporary Music. 

John is a member of the American Composers Forum, the American Music Center, NACUSA, BMI, and the Society of Composers, Inc., for which he is the editor of SCION, the SCI's opportunities newsletter, and a member of the organization's Executive Committee. John serves on the Board of Directors of Goat Hall Productions.
