A song from The Wastelands describing the second terrace of Purgatory, specifically the moment when Dante witnesses the shades with their eyelids sewn shut with barbed wire to purge themselves of envy. 

Performed by Walken Schweigert (Violin, Accordion, Vocals), and Michael Hulburt (Banjo).

And All The World Shall Become A Graveyard

A song used for the finale of The Wastelands, spanning into curtain call (during the cabaletta), and accompanying the beginning of the procession of audiences and performers away from the final scene of The Wastelands to the reception area. The lyrics, drawn from the Italian text of Purgatorio, translate as: “Wandering in mind, I shut/ my eyes, transforming thought on thought to dream.”

Performed by Walken Schweigert (Accordion, Vocals, Violin), Michael Hulburt (Banjo, Vocals), Dylan Kingsolver (Cello, Vocals), Ben Bowen (Mandolin, Vocals), and Dan Baker (Guitar, Vocals).

Where Bones Grow

An aria sung by Virgil at the end of The Wastelands, as Dante leaves him for Paradise and they say farewell. Performed by Walken Schweigert (Accordion, Vocals, Violin), Dylan Kingsolver (Cello), and Michael Hulburt (Banjo).

The Forest

A duet between Dante and Virgil at the climax to The Wastelands. Dante and Virgil have just emerged from the harrowing terrace of the slothful, and Dante, feeling confusion and despair, pleads with Virgil to explain love to him. Virgil explains: “The soul is created to love. Just as flames ascend because the form/of fire was fashioned to fly upward, toward/the stuff of its own sphere, where it lasts longest,/so does the soul, when seized, move into longing,/a motion of the spirit, never resting/till the beloved thing has made it joyous.”

Performed by Lindsay Swan (Vocals), Walken Schweigert (Ukelele, Vocals), Michael Hulburt (Banjo, vocals), Ben Bowen (Mandolin, Vocals ), and Dan Baker (Guitar, Vocals).
